Modesty.
I’m starting to see this in a new light. You know, modesty isn’t just about being modest. It’s about being considerate of those around you. What might actually be pretty decent clothing can still make some people uncomfortable. Specifically, guys.
Before, when people would say things like this, I would just roll my eyes. “I’m not immodest, okay? If your mind goes there, that’s your problem.”
While I still sort of believe that, it’s kind of mean when you think about it. Sure, guys need to be able to control their minds, but we don’t need to make it harder for them! Guy and girl minds work differently. Basically, guys are just more physical, and their instincts are more physical. The strongest, most amazing Christian guy is going to struggle sometimes. It’s not fair for us girls to parade around, leaving the self-control to all to them. It’s just not fair.
As nice people, not to mention Christians, we should try our best not to make others stumble and fall. Guys try really hard, y’all. (Well, most of them.) How fair is it if we don’t try at all?
This has never really been a personal thing for me, but I feel like it is now. I’m seeing this issue in a whole new light, and it’s incredibly eye-opening.
I’m not saying girls should dress only in long sleeves and skirts. Not at all. I’m also not saying that the responsibility of keeping minds pure rests completely on girls. Not at all. I’m saying it should be a joint effort. Guys, don’t go there. Girls, don’t lead them.
Be considerate, okay? Be fair. Be modest.
The word is taking on a whole new meaning for me.

Character Day: Taking Sibling Rivalry To a Whole 'Nother Level

Today's been fine. It's raining, so that means the church thing was canceled, so that means I can go to play practice!! Yay! As much as I was looking forward to hearing the church band play, I'm glad I get to got to play practice. I really do love it.
I've listened to NOTHING except Mulan (oh, well, I listened to the LotR soundtrack while I did math, as usual) for about 48 hours. I have never, ever, ever been so totally emersed in something in my whole entire life. (With the exception of being consumed by physical science during exam week last year.) I listen to Mulan, think Mulan, read Mulan, quote Mulan, dream Mulan. I've listened to the CD five times in two days (it's 57 tracks long, people), and had Mulan dreams several nights in a row. I've had nothing but Mulan songs running through my head absolutely-no-freakin'-lie-CONSTANTLY for three days now.
Miraculously, I still love it. Completely do. I don't see how it's possible, but I do. (Haha, I've still got three weeks to go, though.)
School is school. *shrug* Nothing really new there. "Pilgram's Progress" = FTL, but maybe a little less than before.
Still drowing in Latin, but not quite as badly.
Writing...well, Gembira's story has been getting on fairly well for me. (Fairly well meaning a page and a half and ton of back story and character sketches, lol!)

Character Day:
One of my own today--a character that resulted from my temporary obsession with Chinese culture.
Of course, to have a story set in actual China would be too simple. I have to create my own fantasy world based on China (see, that way if I get half my facts wrong, it's not wrong because it's MY world. See how it works? XD). I have no idea how exactly Chinese the culture will be. I've added some things, and will probably change some things, too. The one-child rule was ditched because of my obsession with big families.
Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever written a story about an only child...(Well, Darren is an only child).
Anyway. Back to my character. Her name is Gembira, and she's fifteen years old. She has twelve siblings, including a twin brother.
The culture she lives in is much like China in its system of honor and respect, but I added the rule that your older siblings are also to be honored and respected, and boys are generally valued over girls (not an original concept, especially for Chinese culture).
This creates a very interesting relationship between Gembira and her twin brother, Gan. Gembira is the older of the two, but Gan is a son. Who has more authority? They often have arguments over this, but at the same time share a close mental and emotional bond.
Gembira's personality is curious and unsatisfied with life, but she mostly sticks to tradition and obeys the rules of society. However, in her mind she is constantly questioning the status quo. She's the third daughter in her family, preceded by Darpana, the practical and harsh "oldest daughter", and the long-suffering but unimaginative Fara.
Gembira struggles between trying to be the perfect daughter and wanting to question the family's way of life. She feels that she has just as much to offer as her brothers, but she has trouble accepting those thoughts as legitimate because of her upbringing.

Gan might end up going along with her for some reason and that same stuff happens.
It probably won't be that generic, but I haven't thought through the plot very far yet XD

Oops. Just Kidding.
Okay, so it apparently wasn't Blogger that was being stupid. It was me. -.-
I added the tag to the wrong post, lol! So, here it is:
I've been tagged by the lovely Bethany, a fellow LotR fan.
Rules: Tell 30 things about yourself! It's as easy as that.
1. I have never ridden in an air plane.
2. I can sometimes make my eyes change between blue and green, and once I made one blue and one green at the same time. I don't know if that's even really possible, though. Maybe it was just the light.
3. I used to have hair almost down to my waist.
4. I can speak Elvish a TINY bit.
5. I wear my mood ring on my left ring finger all the time, and when I get married, all my friends joke that we'll have to have a Ceremonial Removing of the Mood Ring :P
6. My favorite candy is M&Ms and Hershey Kisses.
7. I hate jelly beans and skittles.
8. So far, this is the oldest I've ever been.
9. I'm obsessed with names.
10. I love eerie sounding music.
11. Indian (like, the Asian kind, not the Native American kind, lol)/Arabic culture is my favorite.
12. I take a long time to make decisions of the heart.
13. I like pizza hot, warm, and cold, and I will eat it three meals a day for days on end if posisble. I never get tired of it. Really. Never.
14. I'm terrified of crane flies.
15. Only about six people call me by my really-obvious nickname.
16. I love food, but I don't like to eat. (I cannot explain this at all.)
17. I'm addicted to the computer.
18. I used to start tons of clubs when I was younger.
19. I used to want to be the first woman president.
20. Getting new followers makes my day. (Really, it does. I have no idea why. I guess it's just good to know that people care about what I have to say.)
21. I go to the best church ever XD
22. My biggest, deepest desire is to have an older brother.
23. My favorite books ever are the "Farsala Trilogy" by Hilari Bell.
24. I *love* the classic Disney movies (especially Aladin).
25. I love the Disney show Phineas and Ferb.
26. So do my parents. We actually got my dad a Phineas and Ferb beach towel for his birthday.
27. I'm singing the Cheetah Girls' "It's Over" for my audition. IF, that is, I can find the sheet music...*moan*

The Beaches of Ministry
Memory Day! :D A peek into my past...
When I was around two years old, I attended play practice for the Christmas play at my church. I was too little to have a part, but I went along anyway, I guess. During a break in practicing, the adults went aside to talk about some details and make some decisions. Meanwhile, I convinced the older children and teenagers to march around the sanctuary being camels. When the adults looked up from their planning, there was a train of teenagers stomping around the sanctuary pretending to be camels—with me at the front of the procession.
Haha, I don't know if that should really count as a memory--I don't remember it all that well. Mostly I've just heard the story told.

First: Thank you, Rochelle Blue for the question! Yay!! So, the rest of you guys are off the hook--for now -.-
Classical Conversations (my weekly "school") was today. It went much better than last week. My class is slowly getting back to its old self. In biology, we looked at a piece of thread and some cheek cells under a microscope. That was pretty interesting, fun, and funny :) I had the best cheek cells :D Lots of epitheleal (spelling??) cells to sketch.
Cassidy and her family stayed for dinner (Domino's pizza), and we went to the revival service at another church where our church band played again.
We have the best church ever :P We play real music, clap, sing, and praise God! Some of the people were kind of shocked that we actually had DRUMS and ELECTRICE GUITARS, but after a few minutes, they seemed to like it. Of course, by the end of the songs, the 23 people who showed up from our church were basically the only people still standing :)
I liked the pastor's sermon a lot. He talked about how funny it is that we make plans, clear our schedules, pack up, load up the car, rent a beach house, take our stuff down to the beach, put on sunblock, set up the chairs, and then try our very best not to get wet or sandy.
Huh?
He said that that's kind of how some of us Christians are about God. We're really excited, but then we get to the "beach" of ministry where it can get a little uncomfortable, and we're ready to step back out of the water. It was really thought-provoking, and the pastor was really funny.
Well, I'm supposed to get off the computer at 10:15 since school started, and it's 10:20 right now, so I better go. Thanks for reading, and PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, don't hesitate to ask questions for Question Day :)

The Assasin Girl
Having today be Name Day is just ENTIRELY TOO PERFECT.
I pulled up this window to ask y'all your oppinion on some names for stories, and then I realized that today was the perfect day to do it!
Okay, so The W Chronicles is off to an okay start. I'm outlining more and more, and the plots and character are starting to come into focus.
My favorite mini series is probably Wars, just because I like the girl in it and I think she's an interesting person. She's the character I'm trying to name.

She can play a timid servant girl, a flirty gypsy, a snobby aristocrat, a clever street rat, you name it, she'll play it. She's quick and quiet when she needs to be, incredibly persuasive, good with a dagger and a bow and arrow, and, oh yes, she's pretty. Not all the time, of course, and it's hard to tell what she really looks like. She's a master of disguises, so you might not see her looking the same way twice.
Back to the assasin business. She's not exactly evil, but she does love the excitment of, well, killing. In her world, politics is big and there's a lot of strife going on, perfect times for a budding assasin. She's never been caught, not really even close, and she's taken out a fair lot people. She'll get rid of anyone for a price, and including lords, ladies, love rivals, business competitors, and even a duke.
Possible names, meanings and pronounciations:
1. Brenna - (BRIH-nah) - raven maiden
2. Kieran - (kee-EHR-ihn) - little dark one
3. Vega - (VAY-gah) - falling star
4. Chiara- (a cross between chee-AHR-ah and shee-AHR-ah) - clear
5. Story - story
6. Juliet/Juliette - youthful

I pulled up this window to ask y'all your oppinion on some names for stories, and then I realized that today was the perfect day to do it!
Okay, so The W Chronicles is off to an okay start. I'm outlining more and more, and the plots and character are starting to come into focus.

Sleeping Beauty's Make-Over
It's Name Day!! WOOHOO! My personal favorite :D
I'm going to go with Sleeping Beauty's name, Aurora. It means "dawn", and it comes from the Latin.
Why that name, you ask? Keep reading.
Okay, now that Name Day is out of the way, let me tell you what I've been doing today :)
First, I started reading "The Da Vinci Code". Both my parents have read it, and they told me I would really like. They said it's intriguing and well-written even if it isn't all historically accurate and some religions are falsely portrayed, including Christianity.
I'm only a few chapters into the book, but it's everything I hoped for so far! It's extremely well-written and fascinating, the story just draws you in. Author Dan Brown uses all the words that I know and never have to use! Haha, I'm such a nerd, but it really excited me to be able to exercise my ridiculously huge vocabulary.
I'm not far into the book at all, but I'll definitely let you guys know what I think when I'm done. Even now I can tell it's going to be one that I highly recommend.
Besides reading, I've been sleeping really late (10:30am today), reading blogs, writing painfully few words, and coloring print-outs of Disney characters.
I've gotten really into coloring the past couple of days. I'm a serious perfectionist about it, too. So far I've colored Meg (from Hercules"), Aladin and Jasmine on a horse, Peter Pan with Tinker Bell, Ariel sitting on a giant clam, Sleeping Beauty with Prince Philip, and Belle with The Beast.
On Sleeping Beauty, I decided not to color her as she is in the Disney movie. I colored her luxurious curls brown, gave her a red crown, an orange dress with red color and sash, and drew on a ruby ring for her ring finger. If I do say so myself, she looks way better than Disney has her ;D She looks mysterious and fiery, not Little Miss Perfect in Pink. I made some terrific changes to Bland Prince Philip, too. He's dressed in red, orange and black with jet black hair. He looks awesome. If I do say so myself.
I am way too into this.
Anyway, the mission trip is in two days! *gasp* Lizzy was getting nervous today, and now I am, too...*deep breath* Oh well. I know I'll be just fine, and having Matt and Lizzy to watch out for will make me feel better anyway. Too bad Daniel isn't going this year, though. Having him around is like having an honorary older brother.
Hmm.
Well, I guess that's about all I have to say.
Oh, wait, let me rant really quick about having writer's block: DANGIT! WHY CAN'T I FREAKIN' WRITE?? WHAT IS THE PROBLEM HERE? SURE, I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M WRITING TOWARDS ANYMORE; SURE I HAVE NO IDEA HOW I WANT THE STORY TO END; SURE I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO TAKE THINGS ANYMORE; BUT FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE, KENDRA! WOULD IT KILL YOU TO CRANK OUT A COUPLE O' PARAGRAPHS??

5. Narcissa: sleep

7. Aerona: poison berry
8. Nyoka: snake
9. Lita: sorrows
Darren's, Narcissa's, and Nyoka's name meanings are the most fitting, but the rest of them are pretty important, too.

Advertising
Tadadadadadadaaaaaaaa!
Sorry. Sudden outburst. I'm hyper right now and I don't even know why. All I've had to eat today is Honey Nut Cheerios and orange juice. *shrugs*
Well, playing with the little kids last night was fun. Not amazingly fun like sometimes, but still fun. A kid who doesn't usually come to band practice came, and he is not as aquainted with his imagination as one might hope. We wanted to play orphans, and he goes, "What's that?"
Maybe I'm asking too much of the kid, but, really, it's not that hard to figure out. Probably I just have a wacked idea of what a "normal child" is because my friends and I and everyone I play are...well...not normal. Anyway, it was still fun, but different than usual. But I relearned how to make Jacob's Ladder and Cup And Saucer and the Witch's Broom with a string, so it's all good ;)

Today is Name Day! I'm going to start doing names of my followers! I'll start with the unusual ones, and move on to the more familiar ones. Or at least that's what I WAS going to do.
I tried Googling the meanings of several names, and there wasn't an entry for them! Apparently, some of the names don't exist or something! Crazy, huh? The names that I tried and couldn't find meanings for are:
1. Aegis
2. Krevan
3. Araken
4. Earwen
Weird that Google had almost NOTHING for those names. I love them all and think they're so cool! Too bad I can't find the meaning. If any of you four are reading this and you know what your bloggername means, will you email it to me so I can use it for a later Name Day? My email is embersmokeman@yahoo.com. If you don't want to, that's fine, too.
Since most of the unusual names are, um, unusual, I'm going to go with...Ellie B first! She's one of my best friends, so she seems like a pretty good place to start.
Alrighty. Ellie is a nickname, but because I don't know if it's okay to give out her real name (it's something you would never guess from "Ellie"), I'm just going to use "Ellie" anyway. Ellie means... *tries to remember without having to Google it* ...darn. Okay, Google, here I come...Oh, wow! Another multi-meaning name! Here's what I got:
Noble, exalted, sun ray, shining light, foreign, famous warrior (all those were from one site!), light, most beautiful woman.
Wow, that name is PACKED with meanings! I think the one I've heard most often is "noble, exalted", though. Or maybe light. Anyway, Ellie, you have a pretty powerful name!
