Well, I decided to do it! There might not be tons of interest, but I've decided to start a blog for book reviews :) I plan to post around twice a week, and the reviews will ALWAYS be under 500 words. I'm really excited :D The first review goes up tomorrow! Check it out!

Books
There are different kinds of snobs out there, as my friend Cassidy pointed out. You have clothes snobs ("Anything from Goodwill is automatically garbage."), water snobs ("Bottled only, thank you."), movie snobs ("The character development was a little slow, and I thought the script was weak."), clique snobs ("Oh, she's really into artsy stuff, soo..."), etc. You can be a snob of just about anything. One (of many XD) thing I'm a snob about?
Books.
I love reading. My first word was "book." I used to follow my mom around the house when I was two, holding up a book and asking her to please read it to me.
When I was little, my mom picked out my books. She always picked really good ones, classics or ones that were by well-known authors. When I got to be ten or so, I wanted to pick my own books. My mom was fine with that. It was then that I realized something:
Not all books are actually good.
It was a strange revelation to realize that a book doesn't have to be well-written with well-developed characters, a tight plot, and good vocabulary to get published.
I haven't changed much in my expectations for books since then, except maybe I've gotten even "snobbier" XD I'm sure that keeps me from finding as much stuff that I absolutely love, but I think that's a fine. I'd rather know what a really good book is when I find it than think everything I read is amazing.
I don't mean to sound really arrogant here, although I'm sure I probably do :-/ Anyway, I'm thinking about doing book reviews every once in a while, maybe even starting a separate blog for it. Would any of you be interested in that? If you don't mind, leave a comment and let me know!

If You're Pushed for Time, Just Read the Italic Portion at the End
Wow, I've been terrible at posting. Like, really awful.My birthday was great, I got four new books and the movie "Brigadoon." The books I got are "The Forest of Hands and Teeth," "Tex," "Incarceron" and "Across the Universe." I've read "Forest" and "Tex" and I'm on "Incarceron." I plan on posting some review-esque posts soon :)
I used to LOVE the movie "Brigadoon" when I was really little and we haven't been able to find it for years and years. We watched it the night of my birthday and it was really sweet :) Some lines and especially some songs brought back waves of childhood memories. The dancing in the movie is really great, too. I guess I was too little to appreciate that when I was five XD
Last Friday was the Father-Daughter Sweetheart Dance. It was basically like prom only with better music and dads instead of awkward guys. I had a blast :D Pictures possibly soon, my friend's dad took them and they haven't appeared on Facebook yet...
Yesterday, in case you don't know, was Valentine's Day :D I had a good one. We went out to dinner as a family + my grandma. The restaurant was actually the same one my dad and I had gone to before the Father-Daughter Dance. We saw the same cute waiter :3 He told me to have a good night. That may or may not have MADE my night...
I got to drive home :) Yes, in case I never officially said so, I got my permit :) I plan to post more on that later also...
So basically my life has been fine. Up until tonight. When something devastating happened (don't get too upset, I suppose I'm probably being a little melodramatic). First, a little back story.
Have you ever heard of the show Happy Days? If you haven't, you should watch it, because it's genius. It's set in the 50s and 60s and it's about this teenager named Richie and his friends. My personal favorite character is Fonzie, the greaser who's a shocking blend of freaking TOUGH and surprisingly profound.
Anyway, I started watching Happy Days every night at 10 o'clock around Thanksgiving when I was going through some internal crap XD It was so hilarious and fun and took my mind off things. I watched the two episodes and went to bed neatly at 11 o'clock. I went to bed happy and laughing over some of the lines.
If I was having a bad day, it was okay because I could watch Happy Days at 10 o'clock.
If I was stressed about school, I could make it through because I could watch Happy Days at 10 o'clock.
If I was struggling with what to do about something, there was a chance that I'd find wisdom in Happy Days at 10 o'clock.
Happy Days was something happy, something constant, something perfect and reliable that I could count on every night to make every day happy. Lately I've actually said during the day, "I'm so excited--Happy Days comes on tonight!"
XD I know, I'm a complete dork. But a happy one. This evening was great because I was looking forward to my daily dose of Fonzie and my close-second-favorite ChaChi. Good ol' reliable 10 o'clock rolled around and--
Holy mother of feathered cow gerbils. No Happy Days.
Yes. You read that right. No. Happy. Days. The show does not come on at good ol' reliable 10 o'clock, just in time for me to go to bed neatly at 11. No Fonzie. No ChaChi. No wisdom. No laughter. No happiness. Nothing to get me through the day or cheer me up.
I realize that it is only a TV show. I realize that it is not the end of the world. I realize that I really need to get a life outside of watching actors who are now pushing 50 years old IRL. But when I read "Next: Family Ties" I died a little inside. I am way more devastated than I should be.
I thought I could never hate Michael J. Fox.
I was wrong.

Accio New Post!
I read "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" over the summer because I figured it was a cultural thing and I needed to. It was cartoony ("Muggles"? Really?) and childish (Minerva McGonagall? Please.) and I couldn't see why anyone would like the books.
I felt obligated to read "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" after that because my friend wanted me to. It wasn't really better, although I was at least used to the stupid lingo.
Then I read through "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban." I actually liked that one. I liked Sirius. I read over phrases like "Let's use Polyjuice Potion" and "Try Summoning it" without thinking.
I started "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" and couldn't do it. It was mind-numbingly boring and I quit, finished trying. Who cares THAT MUCH about Quidditch??Two months later, I forced myself to try "Goblet of Fire" again. After the beginning, I got into it. It was...great?? I got sort of into it, in a way.
I wanted to read the next one, so I read "Harry Potter and the Order Phoenix." ...I really liked it a lot. The book didn't even start out boring, though Harry was a whiny git at first. The whole thing was becoming surprisingly interesting and extremely complex. I was delighted at how insignificant things started to fit together so perfectly.
I devoured "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" in like two and a half days. I laughed at Ron, marveled at Hermione and cringed at Harry. It was second nature to summon things (Accio!) and I registered the complicated fighting scenes (Stupify! Protego! Petrificus Totalus!) without difficulty.\
I eagerly read and savored "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." I cried. It was intense and realistic. It felt like I was watching my friends right before my eyes. I knew their histories. I knew their styles. I had watched them grow up for seven years.I finished the series, including one of the most satisfying epilogues I've read, on Christmas Day (really the day after; it was 12:46). I never intended to like Harry Potter. And I'm not sure why I do. It IS cartoony at times, and I'm not sure that it's exceptionally well-written. But...for some reason, I DO like them. I like them very much. And I'm sad they're over.
I know a lot of you are very anti-Harry Potter. Whatever. I was too. But there's a lot to appreciate in them besides witchcraft and wizardry. There's mystery and humor and realism and morals and great quotes and strong characters and enough creativity for half the Renaissance period.
Stop judging the books before you read them. I was just as guilty as y'all are; I condemned them too (and I still wouldn't NECESSARILY recommend them for impressionable little kids). But I now stand on the issue of HP where I do with the dread T series:
If you haven't read them, don't judge them. (Ah ah ah, no buts. Stop it. Stop--STOPIT. Shush.) It's just as bad as calling a cheerleader stupid or a homeschooler unsocial or a nerd creepy.

"The Clockwork Angel"

By the way, you know my obsession with (the amazing, hilarious, awesome, witty, clever, sarcastic, arrogant, extremely attractive) Jace? And the trilogy he lives in called "The Mortal Instruments?"
Well.
Cassandra Clare has started a new trilogy that happens hundreds of years before "Mortal Instruments." I've been wanting book one, "The Clockwork Angel" for months. I got it yesterday at Sam's (that's like Costco)!
It.
Is.
Great.
I'm only about a third of the way done, but it's great! I'm not completely in love with the characters yet, but that's only because I'm not finished. They're great. Cassandra Clare did a great job of creating a new story and new characters. I would have been tempted to make my hero and heroine just like Jace and Clary, even if by accident. The main guy, Will, is witty like Jace, but he's completely his own character, too.
I've also laughed out loud about 10 times already. I pretty much NEVER laugh out loud at books. I mean, inside I might be rolling, and I might grin or chuckle, but Cassandra Clare always has me giggling out loud and re-reading paragraphs just because they're hilarious.
Seriously, I'd read this book for Henry alone.
And he's not even the cockycutefunnyguy of the story.

Forgiveness is when you finally banish your hard feelings toward someone and can genuinely love them in Christ.
3) What object of your possession has the most sentimental value in your eyes?
I'm a really sentimental person; I have a lot of little things that mean a lot.

Hmm, Relient K has a ton of great songs that really resonate with me at different times. Up and Up, Best Thing, and Must Have Done Something Right come to mind with my life right now.
5) Do the opinions of others about you really matter to you?
It depends. Actually, no. It doesn't. Yes, they matter to me. I'm pretty much always either trying to make a good impression, or shock people >:D

OH MY GOSH YES. My family--no joke--made a dictionary for all our made up words. We are insane.

Hmm. I feel like it's a pretty good balance actually.

My dance teacher. She is so amazing. I want to be just like her when I grow up.

Wow, anyone who knows me knows that "just because" is one of the most frustrating things you can say to me.

They're not necessarily in order here...1) Call Me by Shinedown, just because I love the song. 2) Forsaken by As I Lay Dying, I love the lyrics and the sound, and it makes me feel awesome. 3) Painting Flowers by All Time Low, I think it was a clever take on Alice in Wonderland. And I just like the song. 4) Treasure by Flyleaf, I love the lyrics. For some reason it gives me chills. 5) Numb by Linkin Park, again, love the lyrics. And I love Linkin Park. Ugh, it kills me to only pick 5 XD I have sooo manyyy and for different moods, times, reasons.

I do, yeah, and not just about the stories they're in. Paige Walt argues with me all the time, but mostly about my own choices. "Kendra, what are you thinking? Don't say that, try this..." etc.
17) While reading a book or watching a movie, were you ever blown away by an unexpected plot twist? What was it and how did you react?

Blue and green in all variations.

Oh, hmm...I'm not sure. Our books are all in good condition, so it's hard to tell how old they are. We have an old LotR box set though.

Well, Belle from Beauty in the Beast is always freakishly like me. Betsy from the Betsy-Tacy books is also amazingly similar to myself. Even the events of her life mirror mine! It's crazy!

Hmm. I'd just be nicer. I don't feel like I'm a very nice person. I feel like I'm selfish and greedy and mean more often than not.

Books to Read
And so begins my first full week of summer! The summer you're sixteen only comes once and I'm determined to have a blast--with or without my license XD Of course, before I can have a successful summer, I have to know what that looks like. So, being the overly analytical obsessive planner I am, I made six lists to bring me through this awesome twenty-ten summer. First up...

Book Tag! (Way Better Post Than That Last One XD)
Yeah, I'm posting twice in the same day. But I figure that's okay for the following reasons:
1. I haven't been posting much lately, so this will compensate a little.
2. I have some awesome news (3 actually) to share.
3. I forgot to thank some new followers :O

Awesome news #2: I GOT A CALL BACK FOR DANCE IN "THE KING AND I"!!!!! YAY! :O :D I think Cavender is coming with me, so he'll get to see me either sink or swim, lol XD Hopefully I'll swim. And gracefully XD

Okay, now for the awesome tag from Silver Angel (whose blog I like. Check it out.):
Rules: 8 books you'd like to live in (mine aren't in order) and why, then tag 8 people! Easy ;)
Book 1: "Eragon". Sorry, but Alagaesia is awesome. And because it's necessary to continue the story. You know the green dragon appearing in the fourth book? Yeah, I'm the Rider. Oh yes.
Book 2: "Lord of the Rings". Surely this doesn't need a Why?? *sigh* If you must know, it's because I think Tolkien was one of the greatest fantasy geniuses on the earth. His world is so complete, it's hard to believe it doesn't really exist. Every race has its own back story, its own legends, its own customs and ways of life. It's just so rich with detail, and I'd love to meet the Hobbits :) Elves, too, but I do love the Hobbits.
Book 3: "The Chronicles of Narnia". Tolkien was a genius, but Narnia holds an irreplaceable spot in my heart. My friends and I once thought we had actually found Narnia in the backyard of my school. I'm not so sure we were wrong...Talking trees, knights in shining armor and wolves have to mean something, right??
Book 4: "The Mirror". Is it egotistical and/or cheating to want to visit my own book? I want to know that I got my characters right, and I'm sure there's a lot I'd have to see to describe accurately. And I wanna meet Luken rlybad.
Book 5: "Peter Pan". Never land is right up there with Narnia. No lie. And Peter Pan is freaking awesome.
Book 6: "The Farsala Trilogy". Really cool books. Kinda hard to explain, but awesome.
Book 7: "Sophie's World". That is such an epic book. It is truly something. Like philosophy, mystery, suspense, fantasy and education wrapped up in one. It is so cool. You have to read it some time in your life. Really, it's so eye-opening and AWESOME.
Book 8: "Uglies series". It's set in the future. Scott Westerfield has an incredible mind for technology. It would be so cool to use some of the gadgets first-hand. And the problems introduced in their world are very interesting.

Food for Thought

People talk about being judgmental a lot, but I'm starting to think it's one of those lessons you have to figure out for yourself. I can talk until I'm blue in the face about not judging, but you have to learn it for yourself.
Things that you swore never to do, say, think, feel, wear, or forget, you will. Don't be so quick to judge people for what they do. You don't know the half of it. You don't know what's going on with them. You don't know how they feel. Someday when you do, you might feel pretty silly for stereotyping them or writing them off.
Of course, there are boundaries to this. There are some things that are never okay, no matter what the situation. However, it may turn out that things you thought were black and white actually aren't.
Think about it.

Okay, I actually have several interesting ideas, but I'm really, really tired right now and I don't feel like putting that much brain into a post. Sorry.
My inspiration has somewhat carried over to today. I haven't written any more of the Random Story, but I came up with two cool book names. I have a list of titles that I think would be awesome for books. Now I just have to write books for all of them XD

I Need Your Opinion
First, I've been tagged by Katie G.!
The rules for this are easy: grab the nearest book, turn to page 123, go to the fifth sentence, and type up the next five sentences!
"I went up the shore and down the shore, but it was all one, I could see no other impression but that one. I went to it again to see if there were any more, and to observe if it might not be my fancy; but there was no room for that, for there was exactly the very print of a foot, toes, heel and every part of a foot; how it came thither I knew not, nor could in the least imagine. I'm not a HUGE fan of "Robinson Crusoe", just because the writing style is a little tedious. But I still enjoyed the book, and it got my imagination going. It's a tiny bit like...well, an adult version of the first Boxcar Children book! It has those same elements of survive-with-what-you-can-find and be resourceful.

I feel like I've gotten bad about being interactive. I used to comment back on every post and stuff like that. I don't do that anymore. It's not because I don't care about y'all anymore, it's not because I don't feel like talking to you, it's not because I think I'm all that and I don't have to answer you. I'm just kind of busy.
*sigh* Well, THAT came out lame.
I guess I'm not THAT busy, or at least I don't have to be. If I managed my time better, I'd have all the time in the world. But I don't. So I don't.
I am getting there. Um, really, really s l o w l y, but I AM getting there.
I'm thinking by junior year I'll have it all figured out XD :P
Getting back to the interactive thing, I want to post the stuff y'all like to read. Believe it or not, even *I* run out of ideas ;) What would you enjoy reading?
I'm gonna make a poll, but if you have any suggestions at all, please tell me :)

Mood: moody
Outside my window: wintery, but kind of light and I can see the grass, so yay :D
I'm thinking: I wish it were summer.
I'm reading: "Witch and Wizard" and "Inkheart" for fun. "Father Brown Mysteries" for school.
I'm listening to: "Forsaken" by As I Lay Dying (<3)
I'm wearing: my favorite sweatpants :D And my Mulan shirt. And my sweatshirt that I wear a lot...
Yesterday, I: did NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTHING and then went to eat at JP Looney's.
I'm excited for: Cavender's coming to church tomorrow, and my friend's birthday party is tomorrow :D
I'm sad because: I'm a'ight :D
I'm hungry for: Heh, funny story...I forgot to eat today :D But I'm not all that hungry...whatever. I can be hungry for anything XD
The song stuck inside my head is: "Forsaken." Because I'm listening to it. Oh, never mind. It's "Call Me" by Shinedown now :D
I want: As cliche and artsy as it sounds, to find myself...

I loathe: how I never write anymore
This week, my goal is: I want to say that my goal is to get back to the way I used to be. But a goal is supposed to be something you think you can reach, isn't it?

Today was good, despite the melancholy undertone this post has. I woke up badly, though:
Me: *sleeping peacefully...wait...what's that noise...who's standing by my bed??*
Daddy: "Hey. It's 10 o'clock. What time did you want me to wake you up?"
Me: -________- "It's a Saturday."
Daddy: "Yes."
Me: "I want to sleep until I wake up myself."
Daddy: "Okay." *leaves*
Only now I'm wide awake -_- Greaaat.
XD
So, that sucked.
An hour and a half later, I got up. We were supposed to clean today. I despise cleaning. I hate it. Mostly because I draaaaaaag it out and it takes me all day and I've still done basically NOTHING.
But today was different. I got up, and...went into extreme cleaning mode. I cleaned my room, the bathroom, the upstairs bathroom, the school room, did laundry, and did my regular chores in two and a half hours.

It. Felt. Great. I love working hard, I think I really do, I just...I have no idea why I just DON'T. It made me think creative thoughts. It made me feel more like ME than I've felt in a freaking LONG TIME. It was weird. But awesome. I dunno. But I loved cleaning today XD
I did forget to eat, though. I just got into cleaning mode, and skipped breakfast. Well, and lunch. I had some chips like an hour ago, though, but now I feel like I lost a challenge -__- I was gonna try to make it til dinner, but I was like *shrug* "I'll just eat a chip." And now I feel like I lost...Lols XD I'm strange :D
Anyway, I just read "Inkheart" for a while, and now here I am. First time on the computer all day. WooT :D
Haha, I don't have much to add. Today was basically just cleaning XD But it was good. And I felt like the old ME. That was awesome. So, all in all, a very nice day :D

Today Sucks. Yesterday Rocked.
This SUCKS.
*rips hair out*
Yeah, it's kinda been one of THOSE days -_-
My school work went/is going really terribly today. And it's basically my fault. It's just been one of those days where I can't get myself motivated, and I want to do/think about other things.
I don't LIKE being lazy. But it is so hard to change :-| So, overall today has sucked, and is still sucking. Really bad. And me sitting here typing this when I should be doing SO MANY OTHER THINGS isn't helping anything. But here I am :-|
So, yesterday was Valentine's Day, and I didn't blog. *sigh* Ah, well. I did that epic V-Day Eve post, so that counts for something, right? *shrug*
Valentine's Day was good. Actually, no, it was a heckuvalot better than "good". It was pretty much AWESOME :D
I got woken up at 7:30, which wasn't a great start, but there was a good reason: the Heart Trail. Every Valentine's Day, Lizzy and I wake up to a trail of paper hearts leading us to our Valentine's Day candy and presents! :D I'm never gonna be too old for that. I asked my mom if she'll come do it for my college dorm XD
I got CANDY and a cute Valentine's Day shirt. I wore the shirt to church
Church was good. It was the ten year anniversary, so we had a slide show with pictures of everyone in all the different buildings we've met in. Matt and Katie and Lizzy and I were so little and cute! Especially them, lol. No so much me XD I just looked like an annoying, little version of how I am now. Matt and Lizzy's hair used to be almost white-blonde, and Katie was just plain ADORABLE. Curls and lil' chubby cheeks XD Those three are the cutest kids in the whole world (with the possible exception of Kyle's little siblings).
After church we went over to Matt and Katie's house with a bunch of other people. Lunch was tacos. Everyone had trouble eating them, lol! We ended up kinda messy XD
After lunch, I felt awkward. I know it seems rude, but some of the girls...I just feel stupid around them >.< Like they're so much cooler than I am that everything I say comes out lame. So, I opted for antisocial and went upstairs to watch Matt and his two friends play Modern Warfare 2 :-| I feel sort of bad for "ditching" the girls, though :-/
The boys were fine with me hanging out with them. They're used to it. I think they actually like me, at least sometimes. I can't offer any game advice, but I'm sarcastic enough that I provide some comic relief XD
Matt has read all the Harry Potter books apparently O.O I'm still on four...I can't believe it. My little brother reads faster than me now?? Crazy times, people. I wouldn't mind so much if he'd keep his mouth shut, but he just HAS to spoil everything he can think of -_- I spent like five solid minutes with my hands over my ears doing the standard, "LALALALA...".
I think he started to actually get a little bored with MW2 after a while. He went and got the third book in the Percy Jackson series and started reading O.o How did I miss this facet of his personality?? I didn't even know he liked to read much less INSTEAD of video games! :O
I'd read the first book in the series, and part of the second one, but I'd never finished it. Matt gave me the second one and we started reading. We scared his friend with our lovely, wholesome interest >:D
After Friends A and B left, Matt and I just read in the movie room until Mr. Leon came up and said we were being antisocial. *sigh* So we had to go down and mingle, lol XD
Then there was youth group. It was a tad boring.
Then my family went out to dinner at JP Looney's. That was good. We called Matt and Katie to see if they wanted to eat with us, but they were tired from all the company, so we just got wings to bring home to them.
Don't you love friends that you can just walk in on and they don't think anything of it?
We got to Matt and Katie's house with the wings and Matt came to the door. He blinked,
"Y'all come late..."

We walked in and put the wings on the counter. Katie was studying for a Latin test and was really worried about it, so I sat down and helped her. Matt ate wings and read Percy Jackson. My mom and Mrs. Martha went to the bedroom and talked secrets apparently. Katie tried going in several times and got shooed out. Lol *shrug* The dads just sat talking and watched the Olympics.
Their house feels like a second home. I love them.
Then we came home, and I talked to Cavender :D :D :D :D :--Yeah, lotsa smilies, ANYWAY. Advance claiming FTW ;)
Then I kinda vegged out on the couch 'cause I was starting not to feel good :-| I watched the Olympics and texted someone...*cough* Cavender *cough* Then I watched Wizards of Waverly Place for a little while, hoping I would stop feeling sick to my stomach -_- I did.
Then...I went to bed :D And slept until 8:30 this morning.

Valentine's Day was good. Actually, no, it was a heckuvalot better than "good". It was pretty much AWESOME :D
I got woken up at 7:30, which wasn't a great start, but there was a good reason: the Heart Trail. Every Valentine's Day, Lizzy and I wake up to a trail of paper hearts leading us to our Valentine's Day candy and presents! :D I'm never gonna be too old for that. I asked my mom if she'll come do it for my college dorm XD
I got CANDY and a cute Valentine's Day shirt. I wore the shirt to church
Church was good. It was the ten year anniversary, so we had a slide show with pictures of everyone in all the different buildings we've met in. Matt and Katie and Lizzy and I were so little and cute! Especially them, lol. No so much me XD I just looked like an annoying, little version of how I am now. Matt and Lizzy's hair used to be almost white-blonde, and Katie was just plain ADORABLE. Curls and lil' chubby cheeks XD Those three are the cutest kids in the whole world (with the possible exception of Kyle's little siblings).
After church we went over to Matt and Katie's house with a bunch of other people. Lunch was tacos. Everyone had trouble eating them, lol! We ended up kinda messy XD
After lunch, I felt awkward. I know it seems rude, but some of the girls...I just feel stupid around them >.< Like they're so much cooler than I am that everything I say comes out lame. So, I opted for antisocial and went upstairs to watch Matt and his two friends play Modern Warfare 2 :-| I feel sort of bad for "ditching" the girls, though :-/
The boys were fine with me hanging out with them. They're used to it. I think they actually like me, at least sometimes. I can't offer any game advice, but I'm sarcastic enough that I provide some comic relief XD
Matt has read all the Harry Potter books apparently O.O I'm still on four...I can't believe it. My little brother reads faster than me now?? Crazy times, people. I wouldn't mind so much if he'd keep his mouth shut, but he just HAS to spoil everything he can think of -_- I spent like five solid minutes with my hands over my ears doing the standard, "LALALALA...".
I think he started to actually get a little bored with MW2 after a while. He went and got the third book in the Percy Jackson series and started reading O.o How did I miss this facet of his personality?? I didn't even know he liked to read much less INSTEAD of video games! :O
I'd read the first book in the series, and part of the second one, but I'd never finished it. Matt gave me the second one and we started reading. We scared his friend with our lovely, wholesome interest >:D
After Friends A and B left, Matt and I just read in the movie room until Mr. Leon came up and said we were being antisocial. *sigh* So we had to go down and mingle, lol XD
Then there was youth group. It was a tad boring.
Then my family went out to dinner at JP Looney's. That was good. We called Matt and Katie to see if they wanted to eat with us, but they were tired from all the company, so we just got wings to bring home to them.
Don't you love friends that you can just walk in on and they don't think anything of it?
We got to Matt and Katie's house with the wings and Matt came to the door. He blinked,
"Y'all come late..."

We walked in and put the wings on the counter. Katie was studying for a Latin test and was really worried about it, so I sat down and helped her. Matt ate wings and read Percy Jackson. My mom and Mrs. Martha went to the bedroom and talked secrets apparently. Katie tried going in several times and got shooed out. Lol *shrug* The dads just sat talking and watched the Olympics.
Their house feels like a second home. I love them.
Then we came home, and I talked to Cavender :D :D :D :D :--Yeah, lotsa smilies, ANYWAY. Advance claiming FTW ;)
Then I kinda vegged out on the couch 'cause I was starting not to feel good :-| I watched the Olympics and texted someone...*cough* Cavender *cough* Then I watched Wizards of Waverly Place for a little while, hoping I would stop feeling sick to my stomach -_- I did.
Then...I went to bed :D And slept until 8:30 this morning.
So. Yesterday rocked. Today sucked/is sucking :D/-_-

Valentine's Day...Eve :)

Well, V-Day is closing in on us! Haha, that sounded ominous >:D I don't usually get that into the holiday besides getting candy from my parents and making cards for my grandparents. However, I thought it might be nice to do some festive things on the blog for a couple of days leading up to the big day.
I should have started this sooner. *mentally kicks self* I love countdowns. I can't believe I missed this. Now I have all these cool Valentine's Day Countdown ideas! D: Fail on my part for being out of it.
*tragic sigh, plays violins*
'Kay, so anyway, in honor of the holiday of love, I've decided to post my top ten favorite examples of love in books!
1. "Angel in the Square" - Misha and Katya
The relationship between Misha and Katya is one of my all time favorite portrayals of love. Misha and Katya are cousins, but raised as brother and sister during the Russian revolution. Misha teases and is often scornful toward Katya, and she in turn irritates him and mocks his ways of thinking. You would never know how strong their love for each other is until the revolution parts them. The distance between them only reveals to themselves as well as the reader just how much they cherish each other. Their relationship is so deep and beautiful that I fall in love with them both every time I read the book.
2. "Eragon" - Eragon and Sapphira
Eragon's and Sapphira's love is so fun and unconditional. I just love it. They have no choice but to be in each other's heads 24/7, and they still love each other for who they are. Their relationship is intimate and comfortable and a great example of true friendship. They share thoughts and experiences, and help each other through the tough times.
3. "Lord of the Rings" - Sam and Frodo
I will admit it: I have been known to cry during the LotR movies simply because Sam and Frodo's relationship is so wonderful. I think Sam represents exactly what a true friend should be. He sticks by Frodo even when it's the most difficult and painful thing he could possibly do. Even when Frodo is plain unfair to him and sends him away, Sam looks past that and remains a loyal and true friend.
4. "Betsy-Tacy series" - Betsy and Joe
I love Betsy and Joe, and I love them together :) They make a great and complex couple. They have very similar personalities at some points, but balance each other well at others. Although they don't always get along, they do always end up working things out. Starting out as acquaintances, moving on to friends, and finally realizing their love for each other, Betsy and Joe's story is a wonderful journey to follow.
5. "A Spark of Strenght" - Ember and Coal
Ah, yes. Unrequited, but still strong love. Ember and Coal have an interesting relationship because it is never addressed as a real relationship. Ember silently (well, mostly silently XD) loves Coal, but he never looks at her as anything more than the sparktress (girl) who's always been around. He likes her as a sister, but never in any outward way. Ember and Coal's relationship is a bit hard to handle sometimes because of the silent ups and downs, but still a very intriguing situation.
6. "On to Oregon" - John and his siblings
Such a favorite story :) I fell in love with this book the first time I read it. Anyway, due to unfortunate circumstances, John Sager is forced to lead his six younger siblings across the prairie to get to their father's dream land. John has a hard time expressing his love to his siblings, but the reader easily picks up on the deep feelings of affection and protection that rage inside him.
7. "The Two Princesses of Bamarre" - Addie and Meryl
Princess Addie and Princess Meryl have a really good relationship as sisters and best friends. While complete opposites, they love each other with their whole hearts and would do anything for each other. The loyalty and friendship in their relationship is really great.
8. "The Lily series" - Lily and Art
Especially in the last books in the series, I love the relationship between Lily and her older brother, Art. He's there for her and helps her and gives her advice, but in a very realistic way. I don't like books that portray sibling relationships as really two-dimensional and perfect. Lily and Art have a wonderful love/"hate" thing going on that makes me want to read the books over and over again. He really comes through for her, and she can go to him with her tough problems. A great example of love there.
9. "The Giver" - Jonas and the Giver
I think the mentoring relationship that Jonas has with the Giver is really fascinating. They both benefit from each other, and it's really nice to see Jonas soaking in the wisdom from such a wonderful mentor.
10. "Bible" - God and us :)
The best example of love of all! God loves us more than we can ever realize. He would do anything for you. He would die for you. Oh, wait, he already did! ;) God's love for us is the perfect love. It's all my favorite elements combined!
The protective, fun love of Misha and Katya;
the all-knowing love of Eragon and Sapphira;
the unfailingly loyal love of Sam and Frodo;
the strong, silent love of Ember and Coal;
the sweet, fierce love of John and his siblings;

MONUMENTAL DECISION (skip to the end if you want)
Remember what I said about how our BritLit assignment was cool? Well, I lied.
I *thought* it was going to be cool, but it's turned out to be tedious, slow, boring, and pointless. The book is, at least, not the assignment. The author doesn't tell you who's speaking, you just have to kind of figure it out. And it's set in India, so the way they phrase things is sort of cryptic and awkward. And nothing happens. I'm a fast reader, and this is day 2 with only 50 pages covered. I need to get to 170 by Monday. *groan*
Besides that riveting piece of news, guess what else has happened today?
NOTHING. -.-
This is my life during school. Exciting, isn't it? This is why we need a schedule. I'm planning on starting it this Sunday, so I'll just take the top seven Days from the poll.
As of now, the schedule is going to be:
Sunday: God Day
Monday: Name/Quote/Advice/Question (tied, obviously)
Tuesday: Fact or Fiction Day
Wednesday: Picture Day
Thursday: Character Day
Friday: Memory Day
Saturday: Daybook Day
So yeah. That is all I have to say.

Cultural Honor
So, I’m reading this book called Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. It’s kind of a strange book in that it doesn’t really help you do anything exactly, it just sort of helps you understand things. Basically, it examines some successful people, and tries to figure out exactly what it is that makes them that way. There are some really interesting parts, and some parts that I sort of skimmed. But my favorite part so far was this:
Cultural honor.
Stick with me, please, because I found this to be profoundly eye-opening.
You’ve heard about family feuds and stuff, right? How for generations and generations, families will just fight with each other for reasons they might not even remember?
Well, as Malcolm Gladwell points out, one family doing this is a feud. A ton of families right along the Appalachian doing it is a pattern.
What in the world makes those people so prone to violent out breaks with each other?
Did you guess it? Cultural honor. Because the main profession of the mountain areas was livestock and stuff, people honor was very important. I mean, if you were a farmer, you had to rely on other people and get along with your neighbors, but there was never a danger of having your crop actually stolen. When your job was tending sheep or something, people very well could steal your hard work, and it wasn’t necessary to get along with the people around you really.
All you had to protect your livestock and your family was your reputation. Build up your reputation as a tough guy and no one will mess with you. Keep your honor intact.
There are other reasons why culture honor was (and is) such a big thing in those parts. It has to do with heritage.
Back when people were still coming regularly to America, a certain group of people settled in a certain spot: the Scotch-Irish immigrants settled along the eastern/southern US.
That would be “from the Pennsylvania border south and west through Virginia and West Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina, and the northern end of Alabama and Georgia.” And that’s where all this “cultural honor” stuff is big. You can steal my stuff, but you can’t insult my mama. That’s how it works here. *clears throat* I mean, there…
Okay, I’m from North Carolina. And when Mr. Malcolm Gladwell started raggin’ on my homeland, I started getting pretty hot inside.
And as I started boiling, I blinked and realized I was proving his point.
Oh.
…
I read on.
There was then an experiment described. In the early 1990s, two psychologists decided to get together a bunch of 18-21 year old guys and insult them, see how they would react. They came up with the insult they thought would resonate with them the most. “A—hole.” (I am quoting the book, sorry.)
Here was the experiment set up:
“The social sciences building at the University of Michigan has a long, narrow hallway in the basement lined with filing cabinets. The young men were called into a classroom, one by one and asked to fill out a questionnaire. Then they were told to drop off the questionnaire at the end of the hallway and return to the classroom.”
Half the guys were from the states that were high on cultural honor, half of them were not.
“As they walked down the hallway with their questionnaire, a man—a confederate of the experiments—walked past them and pulled out a drawing in one of the filing cabinets. They already narrow hallway now became even narrower. As the young men tried to squeeze by, the confederate looked up, annoyed. He slammed the filing cabinet drawer shut, jostled the young men with his shoulder, and, in a low but audible voice said the trigger word: ‘a—hole.’”
Through different tests that I go into in too much detail, the suspicions were confirmed. Confirmed A LOT. The cultural honor boys were mad. Even though they didn’t act out in violence, their handshakes were firmer than usual, saliva samples revealed that being insulted had raised their levels of testosterone and cortisol (hormones that drive aggression). The guys were also given a short story and told to supply a conclusion. The story had to do with a guy’s girlfriend being come onto by another guy. The cultural honor guys who had been insulted made it end violently, while the guys who lived in other places did not.
IS THAT INTERESTING TO ANYONE ELSE?
I’m going to be perfectly honest with you:
I never thought people reacted any differently.
Call me ignorant, but I thought this was the same everywhere. I had no idea that in other parts of the US, it wouldn’t be natural to react violently to having your honor insulted. I mean, you just don’t do that here. No one gets upset if you steal their stuff, but if you attack their honor, boy, it’s on.
It’s not just guys, it’s girls, too. I mean, I honestly had no idea that it would occur to anyone not to get wild about something like this…I think I’ve already said that :) But you get the idea.
Who knew? I had no idea that culture honor wasn’t the same everywhere. What a cool eye-opener!

Five Wise Men

Okay, one quick thing: does anyone know how to get a scrolling blog button thing on the sidebar? You know, where the buttons scroll through and you can click on the button and it takes you to the blog...Can anyone tell me how to do that? Help would be appreciated, LOL, gracias.
Well, the crowd at church today was somewhat smaller than usual because of the snow. We all expected that, but we never cancel church because of weather. LOL, sometimes it's just my family, Matt and Katie's family, and one other family that show up!
After church, we went home, ate frozen pizzas, and watch Night at the Museum 2 until Mrs. Martha (Matt and Katie's mom) called. She was going Christmas shopping and didn't want to go alone. So, my mom went with her :) Matt and his dad, Mr. Leon, were going to go see the movie Avatar. I was immediately jealous. "WHAT?!" I wanted to see that! DARN.
Mrs. Martha came to pick up my mom, and it turned out Matt and Mr. Leon were in the car! They hadn't gone yet! I could still go! I was very excited until I heard that another of Matt's friends was with them. Darn again. The truth is, the Bible doesn't actually say HOW MANY wise men went to visit Jesus, but since they brought three gifts (gold, frankincense and myrrh), we tend to assume that there were three of them. Well, the crowd at church today was somewhat smaller than usual because of the snow. We all expected that, but we never cancel church because of weather. LOL, sometimes it's just my family, Matt and Katie's family, and one other family that show up!
After church, we went home, ate frozen pizzas, and watch Night at the Museum 2 until Mrs. Martha (Matt and Katie's mom) called. She was going Christmas shopping and didn't want to go alone. So, my mom went with her :) Matt and his dad, Mr. Leon, were going to go see the movie Avatar. I was immediately jealous. "WHAT?!" I wanted to see that! DARN.
Mrs. Martha came to pick up my mom, and it turned out Matt and Mr. Leon were in the car! They hadn't gone yet! I could still go! I was very excited until I heard that another of Matt's friends was with them. Darn again. Well, Folks, It's Today...

And I am going to be at the theater! Cassie Roads and I will be arriving at the theater two hours ahead of time to ensure a good seat. And I'm still not holding my breath for one. I have a sneaking suspicion that there will be Twi-hards and fanpires lined up outside as early as 6pm this evening.
Can you believe that last year I was about to wet my pants to go see Twilight? LOL! Boy, how times have changed. I've barely had time to think about New Moon until, like, today. I kept thinking I'd start getting excited...but I never did. I'm definitely excited now, but it's more like a vague smile as I participate in a fad than a screaming obsession.
Maturing? *shrug* Maybe :)
So, in honor of the Day of Release, I thought I'd do a Twilight post containing all my thoughts about it. Feel free to roll your eyes and skip this post if you so desire :)
I've already state my opinion on the Why-Christians-Should-Hate-Twilight issue, so I won't go into that again (I believe Twilight is perfectly okay for Believers, by the way). If you want to here my relatively-short-for-me rant, click HERE.
Now my view on the ever-popular issue: TEAM EDWARD OR TEAM JACOB??
VIEWS ON EDWARD
The Good
1. Beautiful
2. Strong
3. Mythical
4. Firm believer in abstinence
The Bad
1. Ultimate controlling boyfriend
2. Learn to laugh, would ya, Ed?
3. Dead
4. His love for Bella is completely unrealistic. I mean, really?
5. Robert Pattinson is ugly.
VIEWS ON JACOB
The Good
1. Hott
2. Great sense of humor
3. Mythical
4. Fun to hang out with
5. Loved/knew Bella as a friend first

EMMETT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WooooooooooooooT! :) Hehe, he's my faaaaaavorite. He's everything Jacob is/has except he's an OLDER BROTHER, TOO!! I mean, c'mon! ;)
Now. Which book is my favorite? I like them all for different reasons, so it's honestly hard to choose.
TWILIGHT:
Great beginning to the story. Edward is awesome in this one because you don't get to know Jacob that much XD Edward and Bella's relationship is fun and healthy and Edward growls several times. *girlish giggle*

**SPOILER ALERT**
Edward leaves!! :O *gasp* Which sucks the first time you read the book, but then when you read it again, you're not as shocked and you can enjoy Jacob more. Then the book is pretty awesome. Lots of Jacob and Jacob-esque humor. Bella and Edward's relationship spirals quickly into the utterly ridiculous and unhealthy stage.
ECLIPSE:
Definitely my ultimate LEAST FAVORITE. Edward is back (*grumble*), and a complete control-freak. He keeps Bella from her other friends and from her best friend, Jacob. Bella and Edward's relationship is stupid and creepy, and Jacob is constantly fighting for attention. There are some good moments, of course, but over all I wanted to slap Edward the entire time.
BREAKING DAWN:
**BIGGGGGG SPOILER ALERT**
Hehe, PG-13. No, really, it's not that bad. Bella and Edward get married, and they do what married couples do. So it's not bad morally, but maybe not for little kids either...Still, you get to see Emmett a LOT more, which is a huge plus to me. Jacob appears plenty, too, and there's even a section of the book written from his point of view! Awesome!
So there's my view on the books. I'll just wrap this rant up with some lovely cast photos :D

Kavi and Jacob. What does Kavi want most? The best thing for his people, justice. What does Jacob want? Bella (lol). So the title of the book would be...Love and War.

Eragon and Luken working together? Well, since Eragon has some experience working with Elves and their peculiarities, that might not be too difficult. Although, Luken's arrogant attitude is enough to drive anyone crazy.

KAVI!!! *hyperventilates* I love him!! Well, as a character. Um, it would probably go rather disappointingly, though. He's not a very sociable person and I'm much younger than he is (he's 19-20). I would definitely ask him lots of questions about being a spy and a peasant, etc., but I can't imagine him being more than vaguely interested in visiting.

It would depend on the issue, but in general, I almost think Darren would go with Jace...I think he could definitely relate to Jace much more. Then again, there are some things that would make Darren want to side with Luken...Probably Darren would side with Jace, though.
