Cinderella's Fairy Godmother

Thanks for following, Shruti and Milly-Mischief (sorry, I couldn't find a link to your blog)! New followers always shock and delight me :D

I'm not supposed to be be back FULL-KENDRA-FORCE until Easter, but I feel pretty good today and decided to post. (It's warm and sunny again. I'm definitely seeing a pattern.)

Judging by the poll over there, y'all would like to hear more about my life. I can do that. Here's what's been happening with me lately:

Church.

School.

Classical.

Dance.

Stress.

Cleaning.

Repeat.

And TA-DAAAAAA!

Yeah. Now you know why I haven't been posting much.

No, I could probably turn some specific instances in my life into real posts. That might actually be good. I'll do that. That is, I will after Easter when I feel like putting legit energy into this blog XD

But then, according to the omniscient poll , you're also interesting in my writing. Hmm >:D

I think I've posted this before, but it's a short story I wrote for school last year called "Cinderella's Fairy Godmother".

“Oh no!” cried Cinderella, her bright blue eyes widening. She watched as her cruel Stepmother shut the door, locking Cinderella in her attic bedroom. Cinderella ran over to the heavy wooden door and yanked on the handle. “Please! Let me out! Let me out! The grand duke will be here any minute with the glass slipper! Oh, you’ve got to let me out! Please!”

Of course, the Wicked Stepmother paid no attention to Cinderella. She slipped the key into her pocket and smirked in evil satisfaction as she walked down the winding stairs to the main part of the house. It was only a matter of time now before one of her real daughters would be a princess. Cinderella’s little glass slipper had to fit one of them. Deanna and Caroleena’s feet couldn’t be that much bigger.

“Girls!” she shouted when she got to the parlor. “Hurry up! The duke will be here soon!” The Stepmother sank tiredly into a chair. Being a selfish control-freak was exhausting.

Caroleena and Deanna charged into the room.

“Here we are, Mother!” Deanna announced in her bossy, nasally voice. “Is the duke here yet? Where is he?” Stepmother rolled her eyes.

“He isn’t here yet,” she snapped. “But we must be ready when he comes. We must conduct ourselves as true ladies. Remember, the poor duke has been traveling around the kingdom all night looking for the maiden whose foot will fit into the glass slipper. We must act with grace and poise.” Deanna nodded. Caroleena looked baffled.

“We’re gonna poison the duke?” she gasped.

“Poise, not poison, you idiot!” Deanna sneered. Caroleena blinked.

“Oh,” she said. “I get it.” It was obvious that she didn’t. Stepmother sighed.

Now, Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother was watching stealthily and listening carefully from outside the window. She smiled to herself. She knew just what she was going to do. Then she sighed and shook her head. Being a Fairy Godmother was a tough business. Always helping others, never doing what you wanted, being selfless all the time. Where was the fun in that?? The Fairy Godmother shook her head harder to rid herself of such thoughts. No. She knew what she would do. She trotted off to get ready.
~~~
Bang, bang, bang! Came a knock on the door. The Wicked Stepmother leapt up from her chair.
“That’s the duke,” she said. Caroleena and Deanna stood up as well. “Be ready, my daughters. Remember what we talked about. Grace and poise.” She glided over to the door and opened it, revealing the duke and his large, walrus-like mustache.
“By order of the king, I am to try on this glass sl—”
“Oh, yes, yes, the slipper,” interrupted the Stepmother, stepping aside to let the duke pass. “Do come in.” The duke pulled at his mustache.
“Yes, of course,” he said, coming inside. He looked over his shoulder. “Come along, Ichabod.” A short, fat, bald man waddled after the duke, carrying the slipper on a purple pillow.
“Do sit down.” The stepmother motioned to some chairs. “These are my daughters: Caroleena and Deanna.”
“Hi,” Caroleena giggled.
“Good morning, your grace,” greeted Deanna. They both curtsied. Caroleena lost her balance and crashed into the tea table. The stepmother pursed her lips.
“So, your grace,” she said to the duke, stressing the word “grace” and giving Caroleena The Look. “How would you like to do this?” The duke blinked.
“Oh, well, yes, um, are these your only daughters and the only maidens of this residence?” he asked, clearing his throat. The stepmother pasted a smile on her face.
“Yes,” she answered. “This is it.” The duke gave a quick nod.
“Alright, then,” he said. “I’ll just try the slipper on them one at a time.” The stepmother nodded. The duke looked at the stepsisters. “Will one of you please come forward?” They both rushed at him as if they’d backed into a spear. The duke was so startled he fell back into the chair behind him.
“Poise,” hissed the stepmother through gritted teeth. Deanna regained her composure and folded her hands neatly. Caroleena just giggled and blinked. The duke recovered and motioned for Ichabod to hand him the slipper. He did. Caroleena kicked her shoe off and thrust her foot into the duke’s face, wiggling her toes.
“Oh, do me! Do me!” she cried. The duke gently pushed the frantic toes away from his nose.
“Yes, alright, my dear,” he agreed. “Just place your foot into the slipper there—” Caroleena did.
Well, sort of. She got her toes in, anyway. The rest of her foot didn’t even go into the shoe.
“It fits!” she cried. The duke blinked.
“Well, not exactly, my dear—”
“Does so!” Caroleena whined. “See??” She put her foot back up in his face. Deanna sniffed.
“Your foot isn’t even in the shoe, Carrie,” she snorted. “Only your toes.” Caroleena scowled.
“So? They’re toe shoes!” she snapped. The duke shook his head and removed the slipper.
“Next.” Deanna waltzed up to him and delicately slid her foot into the slipper. Well, nearly, anyway. Her foot was smaller than Caroleena’s, but it still stuck out the back end. She pushed her bottom lip out in a pout.
“No fair!” she whined. “Mother! Make it fit!” The stepmother’s nostrils flared.
“I don’t understand it,” she said to the grand duke, forcing a laugh. “It fit perfectly yesterday. Deanna does have a history of growth spurts, though. Perhaps—” The duke shoot his head and stood.
“I’m sorry, ma’am,” he said. “But the slipper just doesn’t fit either girl.” He put the shoe back on Ichabod’s purple pillow. “Thank you. We’ll be on our way.” He turned for the door.
Just then, a flash of blue light came from upstairs. Tiny footsteps pattered down the steps.
“Your grace!” came a sweet voice. “Oh, do, let me try the slipper on!” Cinderella appeared. The duke stopped abruptly and looked at the stepmother.
“You told me those two were the only girls here!” he protested. The stepmother forced a smile.
“Well, I thought surely you didn’t mean scullery maids, too—”
“Every maiden,” the duke insisted. He motioned to Cinderella. “Come, my dear, and try on the slipper.” Cinderella walked over and sat down. Ichabod trotted over with the slipper. But he didn’t make it. The stepmother tripped him with her cane. He flew head over heels and the slipper hit the floor and shattered. Everyone gasped. Cinderella scowled, which was quite out of character. She muttered something under her breath that sounded a great deal like “Bibbidi-Bobbidi Boo,” and there was a blue flash that came from the general area of her apron pocket. No one noticed either strange thing, though, because they were all preoccupied with the broken slipper.
“Oh no!” sobbed the duke. “Now we’ll never know! What will the king say?”
“I can help,” Cinderella cooed. She extracted something from her suspicious pocket. “I have the other slipper.” She did.
This brightened things considerably. The duke tried the slipper on Cinderella, and it fit. With much trumpet sounding and rejoicing, he led her out to the carriage to take her back to the palace to the prince. Caroleena and Deanna ran behind the carriage halfway to the palace until they both collapsed from exhaustion.
The prince was thrilled to see his mystery girl and they began planning the wedding at once. The prince showed Cinderella her grand room.
“It’s beautiful!” she cried. She looked at the prince with loving eyes. “May I have a minute?”
The prince nodded and left the room. The second he was gone, a blue flash of light exploded around Cinderella. When it faded, there stood the Fairy Godmother! She shook her head.
“It’s going to take me a while to get used to Cinderella’s shape,” she muttered to herself. She smiled in satisfaction. “I tricked Cinderella, changed myself into her form, and am going to marry the prince.” She nodded happily. “Finally. I’m doing something I want and getting out of that awful Fairy Godmother business.”
So, Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother married the prince instead. And no one ever really found out.
Kendra's Warm Weather Rant
Notice anything different about the blog?
...
...
-_-
Oh, come on. *I* could notice this.
Yes, I've changed the blog back to its default theme. The warmish weather is inspiring me :D The background is totally new. I like it, and it matches the blog colors so perfectly. I got it from The Cutest Blog on the Block. I'd definitely recommend looking around over there!
Anyway, I see nine of you have voted in the poll over there. You are now my favorite followers. To those of you who didn't vote, I'm offended. I'm going to go cry myself to sleep in a corner, wondering why the world is such a dark place.
Nah, I'll probably go stalk some people on Facebook or maybe I'll write something. I feel like writing something. (Sit down, Kyle, I don't think it will be The Mirror.) I feel like writing about kids in the south in the summer hanging out and doing what we kids in the south do in the summer.
I watched "To Kill A Mocking Bird" last night. Can you tell?
Warm weather always sparks my creativity. I think I've always done my best writing when it's warm outside. Winter just kills me inside. It's cold, and wettish, and pale, and you can't DO anything unless you live where it's cold enough to legit ice skate. Where I live, you have to drive yourself to an ice house and pay to skate around for two hours will trying not to trip over little kids and gag at all the couples giving PDA a whole new definition.
And it's cold. Which I hate.
I like warm weather. All the good stuff happens when it's warm outside: playgrounds, cook-outs, picnics, bare feet, T-shirts, ponytails that don't make your neck cold, tanning, pools, lakes, the Forth of July, fruit, no school, freckles, getting in shape. What is not to like?
*thinks hard about this question*
I got it: bugs.
Bugs are a huge downside to summer, especially if you're like me. It's like the arachnophobic and OCD sides of me come together, making it impossible for me to sleep until I've checked every corner of the room for eight-legged terrors.
You also have bees, wasps, and yellow jackets. Bumble bees do not actually bother me. They're fuzzy and round and adorable and they look cute on the flowers. Wasps on the other hand are hideous and BIG and yellow jackets are like the Mafia of the insect world. They're always up to something and if you mess with one, the entire freaking hive comes to haunt you.
Then you have the mosquito/fly/crane fly category. Do I even have to go into this? Mosquitoes are loud little disease factories with long tongues (note the spelling of that, Cavender). Flies barf on your food. Crane flies were designed specifically to add to my paranoia. (Come on, they are HUGE with long, creepy legs, and they're so...*shudders*...just awful.)
But. Other than bugs, warm weather is completely perfect.
Now, if you will excuse me, I'm going to go write something truly brilliant and charming, full of lovable characters and believable dialogue laced with underlying morals and a surprise ending.
Nah, just kidding. We all know I won't get past the first three pages. But for some reason, I'm going to go write it anyway...
You will never understand me. But neither will I, so it's okay.
Go enjoy your weather.
I Need Your Opinion
First, I've been tagged by Katie G.!
The rules for this are easy: grab the nearest book, turn to page 123, go to the fifth sentence, and type up the next five sentences!
"I went up the shore and down the shore, but it was all one, I could see no other impression but that one. I went to it again to see if there were any more, and to observe if it might not be my fancy; but there was no room for that, for there was exactly the very print of a foot, toes, heel and every part of a foot; how it came thither I knew not, nor could in the least imagine. But after innumerable fluttering thoughts, like a man perfectly confused and out of myself, I came home to my fortification, not feeling, as we say, the ground I went on." ~ "Robinson Crusoe" by Daniel Defoe
I'm not a HUGE fan of "Robinson Crusoe", just because the writing style is a little tedious. But I still enjoyed the book, and it got my imagination going. It's a tiny bit like...well, an adult version of the first Boxcar Children book! It has those same elements of survive-with-what-you-can-find and be resourceful.
And that's all for the tag :) Thanks, Katie.
So, guess what? Yesterday was the 400th post! Wow! Sorry I missed it. I should have done something fun for it. Ah well.
[EDIT: Wow, I'm such a genius. I had a draft post just sitting around, so THIS was the 400th post -_- I could have done something special after all. Oh. Well XD]
I feel like I've gotten bad about being interactive. I used to comment back on every post and stuff like that. I don't do that anymore. It's not because I don't care about y'all anymore, it's not because I don't feel like talking to you, it's not because I think I'm all that and I don't have to answer you. I'm just kind of busy.
*sigh* Well, THAT came out lame.
I guess I'm not THAT busy, or at least I don't have to be. If I managed my time better, I'd have all the time in the world. But I don't. So I don't.
I am getting there. Um, really, really s l o w l y, but I AM getting there.
I'm thinking by junior year I'll have it all figured out XD :P
Getting back to the interactive thing, I want to post the stuff y'all like to read. Believe it or not, even *I* run out of ideas ;) What would you enjoy reading?
I'm gonna make a poll, but if you have any suggestions at all, please tell me :)
The Weekly "Most" Awards for Schoolwork
So far, the leading Days in the schedule poll are
#1: Character Day
#2: God Day
#3: Fact or Fiction and Name Day
If you want that to change, vote :)
So, yesterday was the first day back at school. So far, I'm trying to be a better student than I was last semester. I got all good grades and everything, but I wasn't trying my best by any stretch of the imagination.
The Weekly "Most" Awards for Schoolwork
Latin - the Most Surprising
I actually don't hate Latin this semester :O Instead of memorizing junk that's too hard and not that important in real life, we're using our skills to read Caesar's battle notes! How cool is that?? I was like, "AWESOME!!!"
British Lit - the Most (*struggles for the word...and can't find it* -.-) Unique/Unusual/New Assignment
We have to learn to take notes on a book. We're using "A Passage to India" and we have to keep a written list of the characters in the front of the book, write summaries above each chapter, write summaries for each page, circle words we don't know (then look them up and write the definitions in the margins). I think that's a cool assignment. A really good skill to get before college.
Music History - the Most Enjoyable
Basically, Stravinsky's Rite of Spring is GENIUS and Debussy's La Mer is right behind. I LOVE THOSE. And the final in this class will be to be able to recognize a piece by hearing a random ten-second clip of it. No sweat. Audio is my best way of learning. This is gonna be a cinch. A really FUN cinch XD
Biology - the Most the Same
...pretty self-explanatory.
Drama - the Most Easy
We read a play out loud in class, and that's all. We don't even have any homework in this class. And it's pretty fun, too. We're reading "Harvey" right now, and it's great.
Debate - the Most Disappointing
Blegh.
Math - the Most Boring
*zzzzzz*
The end :D
Dance tonight! Yay! Talk to y'all later!
Return of the Schedule?
So, first: what do you think of the winter look? I really like it, but it sort of seems...dark almost. Kind of like the White Witch's castle or something, you know? Hmm.
Well, school sort of started back today. Not full speed by any stretch of the imagination. All I had to do was a little biology left over from break and repack my backpack for this semester. Tomorrow is when the real tortur--er, fun begins.
*sigh* I'm not sure when I started to dislike school so much. I used to sort of like it. I think I started to hate it when I started having to try really hard ;P Everything used to be really easy, now I have to really think. Darn, right?
It is official, though:
Kendra has a kold :(
But, seriously, it's not that bad. I hate feeling slow and stuffy, but it's not that bad. I slept a lot better last night than I did Saturday night. Saturday night was like my own personal...heck ;P FREEZING COLD!!!!! Last night, I wore my awesome new pajamas that Matt and Katie gave me, and added two extra blankets to my usual three :D I had really weird dreams though. Not even cool ones like usual, just kind of stupid :-/ Oh well.
With school starting back, I think I may need to get up a schedule again. What do you guys think? It's nice to have something pre-thought-out ideas so that I have something to go on if my day has been totally BLECK, you know? Hmm.
Okay, here's a list of all the "days" I've done before. Which ones would you really like to see back? I'll probably put up a poll in a minute.
1. Name Day
2. Quote Day
3. Character Day
4. God Day
5. Carpe Noctem Day
6. Word Day
7. Advice Day
8. Question Day
9. Fact or Fiction Day
10. Award Day (will not be returning, just so ya know, LOL XD)
11. 50 Word Friday (will definitely be staying, just so ya know ;))
12. Memory Day (...? Did anyone else *completely* forget this one??)
13. Picture Day
Do you feel like this was as boring and useless a post as I do? ;P
~Kendra (Sorry, my signature is still messed up.)
Mostly Boring
Thanks so much for following, Katie G! You made my day (well, yesterday, but whatever XD).
Today was the get-together-with-cousins day. Garrett the Tall and Kathleen the College-Freshman are lots of fun, but more and more I'm finding that I'm closer to my friends than I am my own family. Is that bad? I can't decide if I feel guilty about that. I do have lots of fun with my cousins, though.
Oh, Kathleen was interested in Alias, so we watched the first episode :D Watching the first one made me realize something: they just get better as they go on XD
For lack of a Christmas Countdown, I'm left with not much to say. Haha, did some of you actually just cheer?? How rude :P Just kidding. I don't have any big revelations to post, but maybe you'd be interested in a few little revelations? :)
1. I have been doing a lot of thinking lately. So much, in fact, that I wouldn't know where to start even if I were going to. I'm a confusing person, sometimes so much that I even confuse myself. And that's REALLY bad, right? XD Doesn't it suck when you don't know what you want?
2. VOTE ON THE POLL TO THE RIGHT. YES, THAT ONE. DO THAT FEW PEOPLE REALLY READ THIS THING? JEEZ. Can't blame you. This is boring :P
3. I have (once AGAIN) started the "fire fairy story". How far will it go this time? You guess. The winner will be given a lifetime supply of virtual cookies.
Just so you don't decide that without Christmas, I am boring, let me tell you some things I plan to post about in the final days of 2009 :)
- Cultural Honor (I like this one. Some of you may have already read it on Carpe Noctem.)
- More Fortuna Kendrae
- Top Ten Blogger Pet Peeves
- "Sex" is Not a Bad Word (This was originally entitled, "Sex is Not a Dirty Word", but I decided that came across a bit differently than I intended XD)
Stick around and maybe you'll learn something, or at least get in a few laughs at my attempts to be philosophical ;)
Hey, if you have an preference to which of those topics I do first, let me know!
Family of Four...And Three Other Families!
VOTE ON THE POLL TO THE RIGHT! We have 44 so far. That's more than halfway, but we still need 39 more votes!
I JUST WATCHED THE BEST ALIAS EPISODE EVER!!!! It had all my favorite stuff, and plenty of Mr. Sark! <3 <3 <3 *SCREAM*
Today was the annual playing of Christmas Dollhouse! Every year, Lizzy, my mom and I get out all our dollhouse stuff and play Christmas with them. We play with each other, have a Christmas Parade, and open presents on "Christmas Eve". Unfortunately, we usually get so into it that we drag it out for a long time. We haven't even gotten to Christmas Eve since I was nine years old!!! I wrapped up presents for my dollpeople when I was ten, but since we haven't gotten to Christmas Eve...we never get to open the presents.
Well, this year we did!! We opened the presents, and I was absolutely so thrilled and surprised. I had no idea what was in the tiny dollpresents, so when I opened them, it was like really getting a present. I opened my favorite doll skirt that I've been missing for five years, a jacket I forgot I had, a globe, a CD player, a ball, and a pillow! The Parade was also one of our best. My dad videoed it :) Needless to say, Christmas Dollhouse this year is continuing in the trend of the Best Christmas Ever.
Wanna see some pictures? I took them all with the exceptions of the ones of Lizzy's and my mom's houses.
(**WARNING** TODAY IS KENDRA'S CLASH DAY. PREPARE YOUR EYES FOR MAGENTA SWEATPANTS, A PINK JACKET, AND A T-SHIRT WITH RED WRITING. ALSO, HER HAIR IS UNSTRAIGHTENED AND SHE HAS NO MAKEUP ON. JUST WARNING YOU.)
Captions at the top, click to enlarge. And by the way, do you prefer the captions at the top, or the bottom? I'm starting to think I might like them at the bottom, but what about you guys? Which is easier to process?
Here's my dollhouse all set up for Christmas! I got it when I was two years old, and have loved it for a long time. The girls' side of the roomThe boys' side of the room and the bathroom...I had limited space, okay?? :)Tommy and Timmatheep (there is a serious story behind that name) playing the pianoThe parents' room. Note the laundry basket ;)Mom's in the kitchen! Baby Gloria is in the highchair. See the jacket draped across the chair; I thought that was a neat little touch :)
Dad and Cody watching TV. Yes, the Christmas tree is decorated with paperclips :)Christmas wreath!Lizzy's dollhouse setup. A newer model, seeing how she's two years younger than I amMomma doesn't have a dollhouse, so she always makes her with some of our furniture and blocks and odd things around the house. Her houses always end up looking the best anyway! Here's a look at her living room:The parkAn overview of the downstairs with the dollstuff out. It's not usually this messy; we've been wrapping presents.You were probably wondering what that line of stuff was. Or maybe you guessed. But anyway, it's the Parade floats! Here's another picture, with Rudolph in the lead, as always :)The kids who aren't on the floats ride on Rudolph :)Here's my family's float
Lizzy's family's floatMomma's float, with some other "neighborhood" children on itAnother angle, with Momma's legs in it, hahaThe Christmas Queen :)SpectatorsThe view from the backLizzy and I moving the Parade floats along their route :) Notice the random bald spot on my head...LOL! Weird. I don't think that's usually there...YAY!!! After five years of waiting, my family finally opened their presents! They're all holding them, except for Mom and Dad, who are wearing theirs :) I'd been looking for that awesome skirt for a long time, and I'd completely forgotten about that jacket.Everyone's in bed on "Christmas Eve night"! Wonder what Santa will bring them in the morning...?
:)
Okay, now for Christmas Countdown. Since there are only FOUR DAYS until Christmas, and there are four people in my family, I'll tell each person's favorite part of Christmas!
The Logan Family's Christmas Favorites:
Elizabeth (Lizzy) Amber Logan - Coming home from the Christmas Eve service, and that feeling, and going to bed...The whole Christmas Ever cheer.
Daddy Logan - Having special time with family
Momma Logan - Decorating the house
Kendra Marielle Logan - The time leading up until Christmas. All the parties and traditions. But if I have to pick one favorite part...well, the traditions! I love them. The Cross Collection, the Open House, Christmas Dollhouse...they're what make Christmas "ours".
MERRY FOUR-DAYS-UNTIL CHRISTMAS!!!
P.S. I have some more pictures of me, my friends, my dog, and the house in the snow. Would you guys be interested in seeing them?
Five Wise Men
VOTE ON THE STINKIN' POLL TO THE RIGHT! WE'RE BARELY HALFWAY! THIS IS PATHETIC ;) Just kidding.
THANK YOU FOR FOLLOWING, BRIDGET ROWE! I can't find your blog, though, so no link :( Sorry!
*gasp* I am posting twice in a day??? *shock*
Yes. Sorry, LOL. I don't know why I didn't just save that little picture for this post. *shrug*
Okay, one quick thing: does anyone know how to get a scrolling blog button thing on the sidebar? You know, where the buttons scroll through and you can click on the button and it takes you to the blog...Can anyone tell me how to do that? Help would be appreciated, LOL, gracias.
Well, the crowd at church today was somewhat smaller than usual because of the snow. We all expected that, but we never cancel church because of weather. LOL, sometimes it's just my family, Matt and Katie's family, and one other family that show up!
After church, we went home, ate frozen pizzas, and watch Night at the Museum 2 until Mrs. Martha (Matt and Katie's mom) called. She was going Christmas shopping and didn't want to go alone. So, my mom went with her :) Matt and his dad, Mr. Leon, were going to go see the movie Avatar. I was immediately jealous. "WHAT?!" I wanted to see that! DARN.
Mrs. Martha came to pick up my mom, and it turned out Matt and Mr. Leon were in the car! They hadn't gone yet! I could still go! I was very excited until I heard that another of Matt's friends was with them. Darn again. I thought Matt would probably not be pleased with me if I crashed his boy time, so I told Mrs. Martha I'd just stay here. *SIGH* Now I regret that. Forget annoying my little brother! I really wanted to see that movie.
Okay, wow, that just sounded SOOO selfish. But, really, Matt *probably* wouldn't have cared that much if I had gone...Oh well. There will be other times. There WILL be. I will MAKE another time, LOL :)
I also finished reading Earwen's book today!!! She gave me the honor of critiquing it for her! It's an allegorical fantasy called "The Elmeria Chronicles: Shadows". She's selling copies for $20 if you'd like one. (I *think* the offer is still going on...slap me if I turn out to be wrong.) For more details on the offer, click HERE. If you read it and don't love Eristor, then give me your address so I can come over and knock some sense into you ;)
On a completely unrelated note, I just found this website that has good pictures for your basic fantasy heroes, heroines, etc. Not a lot to choose from, but for some reason it gave me a couple of story ideas right away! Maybe you'll have the same inspiration luck? We'll see. Click HERE if you'd like.
Alrighty, Christmas Countdown time! FIVE DAYS! WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How did that happen?? I've been counting down and it still snuck up on me! Christmas just has a way of doing that and there's apparently no way around it. *shrug*
Okay, ready?
Five Wise Men
...
Haha, you shoulda seen the look on your face--no, just kidding. But you were probably a bit confused, right? I mean, weren't there THREE wise men?
Nope.
I mean, there very well might have been, but there also might have been five. Or four. Or six. The truth is, the Bible doesn't actually say HOW MANY wise men went to visit Jesus, but since they brought three gifts (gold, frankincense and myrrh), we tend to assume that there were three of them. But we don't know for sure, and I'm all about exposing common myths, so...
five wise men :)
MERRY FIVE-DAYS-UNTIL CHRISTMAS!
Eleven of Kendra's Kristmas Memories
Thanks for following (again) Steven! WooT!
Okay, let me just say this in case any of y'all missed it ;)
VOTE ON THE POLL ON THE RIGHT! Can we get all 81 followers to vote? Let's find out. So far there are 26 votes. Even if you round that to 30, we're still missing 51 votes. That is pitiful ;) Let's get it in gear and vote, shaaaaaaaaaall we?
So, tonight I'm going to a birthday celebration. Katie ("little sister") is going to be ELEVEN years old! :O And to think I knew her when she ate Cheerios while sitting on Mrs. Martha's lap during church...*sniff sniff* LOL :)
I watched another Alias episode today. No Mr. Sark. *sob* But it's getting even more interesting. It used to be that I liked the show, but it wasn't like this constant thing on my mind or anything. Now it feels like either I'm watching Alias, or I'm thinking about watching Alias! I really, really recommend it. Really. It is awesome.
Alrighty, time for the Christmas Countdown! Eleven...eleven...eleven...
Eleven of Kendra's Kristmas Memories:
1. When I was two, I got a dollhouse for Christmas from my grandparents! It. Was. Awesome. Three floors of awesome with a little family and some furniture! I loved that dollhouse and collected more people and stuff for years and years. I played with it pretty much all day from ages 2-9 (except when in school). Then I played it regularly from ages 10-13. Most of my stories started out as "dollhouse shows". The main games I played were orphans, slaves, poor people, weird cultures, and runaways :) Oh, yes, and brothers. Always lots of brothers. Always an older, usually a younger, but always brothers.
2. When I was very little, I don't even know how old, we had a rule: after the tree was decorated, no one is allowed to touch the tree or the ornaments. One day my grandpa, "Papa", was carrying me around, and he reached out and touched an ornament. I gasped in horror and cried, "PAPA! Did you touch it???" It was apparently really funny :)
3. I have lots of memories of cooking for the Open House.
4. Two years ago, I was begging for a phone for Christmas. Not a cellphone, just a phone for my room. So I could talk on the phone without having to take the one from downstairs. I really wanted a phone. I wrote out organized lists of why I should get one and gave them to my parents periodically. I organized speeches and discussions and debates on why I should get a phone for my room. Well, guess what? I GOT THE PHONE! It was white and metallicy green. I actually cried a little :') It was a great phone, but recently it's stopped working. *sigh*
5. I have lots of Open House memories. Last year, this guy at my church named Daniel provoked me into debating home-school vs. public school. Ugh, not pretty. Something about him brings out the absolute worst in me.
6. Four years ago when I was eleven and Lizzy was nine, my mom made chocolate chip cookie dough truffles for the Open House for the first time. Lizzy loved them. A lot. Too much. She ate thirteen of them. It was not a happy night, let me tell you that ;)
7. At my old church, there was this thing called...wait, what is it called...? Journey to Bethlehem. Anyway, people from church dressed up as the many different "characters" in the Christmas story and then everyone walked around and visited the different "stations". I don't remember if I liked it or not, though, LOL!
8. Last year, was an interesting Christmas. I got a cellphone, which was such an absolute shock that I started crying. Yeah, I actually cried. It was so utterly unexpected. I hadn't even been asking for a cellphone! I also got a straightener, an iPod, and a ton of other little things. It was basically the ideal Christmas, but, guess what? I actually wasn't happy. Last year should have been an amazing Christmas, but it wasn't for some reason. Stuff really doesn't make you happy, y'all. I know you've heard that a million times, but it's true. I don't expect you to believe me, I never believed it REALLY. It's just one of those live and learn things. But be prepared, because stuff just doesn't do it.
9. When I was about four, I got a hippity hop for Christmas! Do y'all know what those are? It's like this big rubber ball with a handle that you sit on and bounce. Here, picture. Well, I have this grandma. She's kind of no-nonsense; I actually don't think she likes me all that much. Well, guess what she did? She got on the hippity hop! She took one bounce, and...fell right into the Christmas tree! LOL! To a four year old, it was pretty hilarious :)
10. When I was maybe twelve, I had a Christmas party. We played all sorts of games, one of which was seeing how many words you could make with "Merry Christmas". I lost, and I was mad, LOL! I'm supposed to be this awesome word person, so whenever I get showed up, it turns me into a Grinch ;) I've gotten better at hiding it, though. Still learning good sportsmanship, haha!
11. We have this manger. I think I've mentioned this before, but just in case you missed it, I'll just explain it a little. My dad made this manger, and every year at Christmas time, we put it out and put hay in it. It's our reminder that Jesus is coming. On Christmas Day, Jesus is in the manger! We bought this baby doll when I was really little; I don't remember not having it. I think he's beautiful. Maybe I'll post a picture sometime. But anyway, when I was maybe three, I got this baby girl doll for Christmas and named her Maria. I was wide-eyed and so thrilled with her that I ran to Baby Jesus and showed her to him :)
So there are Eleven of Kendra's Kristmas Memories that you could have lived without :) Ah well.
MERRY ELEVEN-DAYS-UNTIL CHRISTMAS!
Mr. Sark and 12 Other Characters ;)
Okay, first, let me just say this: See that poll on the right? Can we get all 80 followers to vote? Yes? No? Let's find out. VOTE :)
NOW, let me introduce you to my latest and EXTREMELY STRONG obsession:
Mr. Sark.
*hyperventilates*
I completely do not know where to start. But, as always, I will try :)
Have any of you heard of the TV series "Alias"? It came on TV a few years ago, but I was too little to be allowed to watch it, much less appreciate it. Now my family has it on DVD and I am an avid watcher. If you like spy movies with lots of action, clever dialogue, unparalleled acting, and an amazing storyline topped off with the great director J.J. Abrams, this is for you! Fans of the Bourne movies will love it.
Anyway, Mr. Sark's character was introduced for the first time in an episode I watched today. The episode opens with him, and before I even had time to process anything, I exploded with an, "OH MY GOSH WHO IS HE???"
My parents (who also LOVE the show and watched it when it came on TV) laughed and told me I was going to LOVE this guy.
They were right. He's amazing, and I've only seen one episode with him in it. I haven't the slightest idea what makes him so amazing, I really don't. Something about him makes my eyes glue to the screen and my lips grin, even though he's evil. He's not the hottest guy in the world and he doesn't have particularly amazing eyes, but something about him is incredible. A real "you just have to see him in action" thing.
I.
Love.
Mr..
Sark.
It got better when he opened his mouth. His voice is perfect. Deep, soft-but-hard and--get this--HE'S BRITISH! :O
Okay, now for what you've all been waiting for. A picture. Fascinated ladies and indifferent gentlemen, I give you...
Mr. Sark:
That picture is now my computer wallpaper. Click to enlarge :)
13 Christmas Legends
First of all, let me draw your attention to the poll on the right! Can we get all 80 followers to vote? Well? CAN WE? Yes or No? ;)
The Open House was today! Lots of goodies and even more friends! Wow, I had a great day! We had an amazing guest band at church called "Ember". (Ironic and awesome, right, all you FF?) The band was made up of kids ages 15-college freshmen. Boy, were they on fire for God! When I see people like that, it gets me so excited! I wanna be like these people! The lead singer/lead guitarist used to play the drums for my church a few years ago; that's how we know them. Yeah, he's super talented. He plays the drums, guitar (acoustic and electric, obviously), piano, bass, and he sings! He might do more and I just don't know about it, haha! But anyway, that was a great start to a great day.
Next was the Open House. That was so much fun. We teens hung out downstairs until the little kids invaded our territory (lols), and then we were forced out into the freezing screened-in porch. We played LotR Risk! I had no idea how to play. This guy named Jes and Daniel tried to teach me and Brianna how to play. Well, apparently, the colored spaces are divided into even smaller spaces. I didn't know that. (It all seems painfully obvious now.) I didn't really get it, and Jes was giving me Matt Lessons (those I-Won't-Really-Tell-You-What-To-Do-Just-What-You're-Doing-Wrong lessons), and I kept putting my guys in his "territories". Of course this is before he told me about territories.
And then he had to explain how the archers are 1, the cavalry are 5, and the eagles are 10. Well, I started calling the numbers "points", just so I could call them something when explaining them to Brianna, but NOOOOOOO they're not "points", which is apparently very important to Jes and Daniel.
I was about to give up and call it a "boy's game", but I stuck it out and actually beasted up some territories, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I did especially well considering they kept picking on the territories where I had only one lonely little guy. LOLS, the whole thing was just really hilarious, but I think it's a "you had to be there" thing. Sorry for wasting your time, lol!
Then we played charades, with Katie ("little sister") telling us all what to be. I was a house, Rudolf, a window and a book among other things. Haha, someone was a bookshelf, and Katie took it upon herself to be snow. She stood on a chair and launched herself scrunched into a ball. *shakes head while smiling* Ya gotta love that will-be-eleven-in-36-hours girl :)
So then I texted this guy named Daniel (not the usual Daniel) for a while as my family and I ate "real" food and watched Cosby.
The day was awesome. Playing Risk is like the best thing ever. It was really, really, really funny, but a definite "had to be there" thing unfortunately.
Okay, now for what you've really be waiting for: the Christmas Countdown!
THERE ARE ONLY THIRTEEN DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS!!!! OMG!!
Hmm, what should I do thirteen of?
Well, thirteen is supposed to be a "creepy" number, so why not something sort of mysterious? Thirteen Christmas Legends anyone? (The four with the * are the ones I suggest checking out!)
2. The Snow Maiden and Grandfather Frost
3. *Legends of Nature at the Nativity
OMGosh!
Holy wow! I have 80 followers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is so insane! I never thought I'd see the day! Good grief, how can all these people possibly care about what I have to say????? :)
For some reason this feels like a really momentous occasion (hence my posting twice in one day, usually a strict no-no of mine). I'm going to do two things in honor of it. First, obviously:
THANK YOU SOSOSOSOSOSOSOSOSOSOSOSOSO MUCH CHRISTIANMILES AND THE COWGIRLS! Y'ALL ROCK! I recommend checking out both blogs I linked. The Cowgirls have a great blog where they post about their life in TN, and Christian has an amazing blog where he posts writing tips. Super helpful, check it out!
Second, I'm going to see how many people actually READ the blog :) The gadget says 80 followers, but wonder how true that is? Let's see how many of you guys are really paying attention ;) I'm putting a poll on the side, let's see if we can get 80 votes! I've been wanting to test this for a while, and the 80th Follower Celebration seems like the right time to do it.
Thanks so much to all you guys. You make blogging the best experience ever. What would I do without you?
The Magic Ring Part I
Thanks to Sarah and Maggie S (for whom I can't find a blog!) for following!! Wow, 67 is an insane number! You guys are so amazing :)
Anyway, the votes are in. After a measly 12 votes (haha, just kidding), the first partial story to be published in serial form is...
"THE MAGIC RING"!!
Lame title, I know. It's not a real title, just the working title. I only got a few thousand words into the story, so a title was kind of the last thing on my mind.
Stories to Come...
1st runner up: "A Spark of Strength" I'll do this one next; it will probably take a long time.
2nd runner up: "The Girl and the Ring" Same thing with this title; cruddy, I know.
3rd runner up: "The Strange Lives of Zillah and Ria" This is a pet story of mine; I love it :)
4th runner up: "Desirae Mayes" Poor Desirae, no one likes her. LOL, just kidding.
Alright, so now I have to decide how I want to do this. Weekly installments? Daily? If your care, leave a comment, otherwise I'll decide all on my own. >:D Mwahahaha :)
So, without further ado...
Part I:
“Katelyn!” Called Mrs. Mullen from the bottom of the steps. “Come downstairs. Your grandparents are here.” Katelyn looked up from her book with a faraway look. Slowly, her brain found its way back to Earth and she yelled,
“Coming, Mom!” Then, she grumbled to herself. “Why now? Why now at the most exciting place in the whole book?!” She sat up from laying on her stomach on her bed and snatched around on the floor for the first two dimensional object she could find. Her hand landed on a piece of wrapping paper from one of her birthday gifts from yesterday. She stuck it tightly in between the pages of the book to serve as a bookmark. Katelyn loved to read, but she could never find a real bookmark when she needed one. The book was a great, epic fantasy with dragons and evil and elves and magic—Katelyn’s favorite kind of book. The book had been a present from her fifteen year old sister Jamie on the occasion of Katelyn's long-awaited thirteenth birthday.
“Why at the best part? Why at the best part?” Katelyn kept muttering to herself. She would have rather read than eaten, much less eaten with her mother’s parents: Gram and Pap.
Gram wasn’t really the sort of person a teenage girl liked to have around. She had gray-ish black hair that would have come down to her waist if it hadn’t been tightly wound into a sensible-looking bun. She was very small and very thin and sort of shriveled-looking. Her nose was sharp and pointed and always seemed to be directed at you. Her thin, pursed lips seemed to just adore pointing out all of Katelyn's faults.
Pap was huge in every way conceived by man. He was tall and fat and loud. He was bald as a bowling ball with big ears and still went to the barber shop every month to chat with the barber and hear some gossip. He had a wide mouth that was always going—and twitching whenever it wasn’t—and he always laughed loudly at his own jokes—which were rarely humorous to anyone else. He was the kind of person who only heard himself and it was better just to smile and nod.
Katelyn slowly made her way down stairs. Gram and Pap had come for Katelyn’s birthday dinner. They and Katelyn’s best friend Caroline had been invited. Of course, Caroline would come on time. Gram and Pap were forty-five minutes early.
“There’s the teenager!” boomed Pap as Katelyn rounded the corner into the living room. Pap roared with laughter and his enormous stomach shook. Gram nodded curtly at Katelyn.
“How are you doing, Katelyn Elizabeth?” she asked rhetorically. Katelyn smiled perhaps a little too big and gave each of her grandparents a hug. It was four forty-five. Dinner would be at six… Katelyn tried to estimate how long it would be before she could get back to her book. Let’s see. An hour for dinner and an hour for talking…Eight o clock! Three hours and fifteen minutes till freedom and happiness! Katelyn’s smile froze on her lips.
Whatever happened to the pursuit of happiness?! She thought bitterly.
“Mom! Dad!” greeted Mrs. Mullen as she walked in from the kitchen. “Sit down. Roger will be here late, he had to work.” Roger was Katelyn’s dad. “Would you like anything to drink?” Pap laughed for no reason.
“I’ll have a glass of iced tea, thank ya muchly!” he said. Gram gave a small, insincere smiled.
“Nothing for me, Grace,” she said. Mrs. Mullen went to get the iced tea, leaving Katelyn alone with her grandparents. Katelyn sank into an armchair and looked around the room. A loud silence settled in the air. Katelyn stole a quick look at Gram. She was sort of smirking or something. Katelyn looked at Pap. His mouth was twitching and he looked almost like he was trying not to smile. Were they trying to make her uncomfortable?!
“Um. I like your necklace, Gram,” Katelyn complimented. She hated it.
“Thank you, dear,” Gram replied stiffly. Pap looked around the room.
“Have you folks redecorated for us?” he asked in a hokey voice.
No, and you know it, thought Katelyn. Instead she answered,
“No, Pap, I don’t think so.” More silence. Time ticked by so slowly. Katelyn felt like it had been hours. How long could it take to get iced tea, for heaven’s sake?!
“Gram! Pap!” said a smooth and beautiful impression of surprise and delight. Katelyn didn’t have to turn around to know it was Jamie, probably with eight year old Emily right behind her. Jamie glided over to her grandparents, silky brown hair swept back into a perfect, medium-length ponytail. Her blue eyes sparkled. Katelyn snickered inwardly. She knew Jamie dislike Gram and Pap as much as she did, but she was much better at hiding it.
Eight-year-old Emily was cute and sweet and loved by all. She had blonde pigtails 24/7 and perfect pink lips, reminding Katelyn disgustingly of Cindy Brady. Gram and Pap showered her with gifts, so she loved them back. Gram and Pap loved Jamie, too. Jamie was sweet and polite and always knew just what to say. Katelyn didn’t think she was so much worse than her two sisters, but she despised Gram and Pap anyway, so it didn’t really matter. Gram smiled.
“There they are!” she grinned as if they were the birthday girls instead of Katelyn.
“How are you?” asked Jamie politely.
"We’re both doing well, thank you, Jamie Michelle,” said Gram. Gram always used their full names. Emily skipped over to Gram in her cutesiest way possible and smiled.
“Hi, Grammy!” she giggled. Gram looked down at her.
“There you are, Emily Cassandra!” she cried, giving the tiny girl a hug. Mrs. Mullen came back with the tea.
"Here you go, Dad,” she said as she handed Pap the glass. Pap sipped and made a contented grunting noise.
“Delicious,” he complimented. Mrs. Mullen sat down and brought up things to talk about, and Katelyn kept wishing for a fast-forward button.
P.S. Scroll down past the Followers thing on the right and look at that awesome widget that shows all the different countries that have visited! Well, people from those countries...You know what I mean :) Actually, if you're reading this, you've already scrolled past it, so scroll up a little...a little more...a little more...THERE! ;)
Haircuts and Anti-Fanpires!
Thank you, Christopher Kolmorgan for following!! W00T!
Guess what, you guys? This coming Wednesday is my ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF BLOGGING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :O Whoa! How did I not notice that earlier?? What should I do? You tell me! I'd love some ideas of what you'd like to see :)
So, today I got a hair cut :D Y'all know how I looked before...and here's how I looked after!
:D I love having a photographer-computer-savvy sister :) <3 href="http://thoughtsofashieldmaiden.blogspot.com/">Thoughts of a Shieldmaiden. Earwen does not hold a very high opinion of the series (although she hasn't read it yet). I'd like to say a little about what I think.
Some common complaints about the Twilight series are:
1. It portrays vampires as the "good guys".
2. It contains sexuality.
3. It encourages girls to go for the "bad boys".
4. It portrays effeminate guys as being hot.
5. It is completely unchristian.
The "Twilight" series is not an incredibly complex story when one tries to explain it briefly. The entire plot line can be summed up in one sentence: "It's about a girl who falls in love with a vampire."
Whoo hoo.
It's actually much more complex and intriguing when you get into it, though. The main character, Bella, and her vampire "boyfriend", Edward, have to fight the constant battle of their two worlds. Edward and his family are "vegetarians", meaning they do not drink the blood of humans, but animals only. However, the call of Bella's blood to Edward is uncannily strong, making for an interesting relationship.
The first accusation to examined, that vampires are portrayed as "good guys" does have some merit. Yes, the vampires ARE portrayed as the good guys. Some of them are.
Oh, you mean how there are good and bad people?
Yes.
There are good and bad vampires in the story, just as there are good and bad humans. Being a vampire does not immediate classify someone as being "evil" or the "bad guy". What you are doesn't make you good or evil, it's your choices. The "good" vampires make good choices. They make the best with what they have. They were turned into vampires against their wills, and are now struggling to be the best they can be under the circumstances. The "bad" vampires make bad choices. They embrace their blood lust instead of fighting it, and think of humans as nothing but snacks.
I've heard the idea of a "good vampire" compared to a "good homosexual". (This post is not about homosexuality. If you want to see my thoughts on that, go to Carpe Noctem. I am just speaking about this subject from a Christian point of view because that's where most of the complaints are coming from.)
That comparison does not computer at all. Homosexuals CHOOSE to be what they are; vampires are "born" that way. Calling all vampires "evil" is like calling all Americans selfish, all African-Americans rude, or all Asians smart, for that matter!
The second complaint about the Twilight series, that the books are full of sexuality, is not true. There are a few pages in the third book, "Eclipse" that have some suggestive behavior, but Edward quickly puts a stop to it. While Bella has no problem giving herself away, Edward has firm principles governing abstinence and makes it clear to Bella that if they were ever to have a physical relationship, they would have to get married FIRST.
Another commonly-made accusation is that the books encourage girls to go for the "bad boys". Edward is not a "bad boy". In fact, at some points he is so good that I turned away in disgust. (Bella did, too, lol!) As I said before, Edward refuses to sleep with Bella (a good thing, not a bad thing), upholds his principles, tries to be the best he can be under the circumstances, respects parental authorities, and tries to do what's best for Bella.
If there is a bad boy in the series at all, it is Jacob Black (my favorite, of course :D). Jacob helps Bella to deceive her father, aids her in dangerous activity, swears (mildly), is the Innuendo King, and tries to break up Bella and Edward.
I don't know about you, but Jacob definitely seems to err on the side of "bad boy" MUCH more than Edward.
Accusation #4: The Twilight books portray effeminate guys as hot. It doesn't, really. I mean, I guess I can see how Robert Pattinson looks girly, but I think the casting of Twilight was TERRIBLE anyway. Edward is the picture of masculinity if you read the books; it's why I fell in love with him the first time through the books. I mean...wow, honestly, he is not girly. Not at all.
The complaint that Twilight is completely unchristian comes from people who have not read the books. For the record, the Bible says nothing about vampires or werewolves. Twilight mentions God several times and all in a positive light. Edward and his family are Christians. Edward's father's father was a medieval priest. The values of good and evil, right and wrong are clearly mapped out through the book in a most Christian manner. I mean, even abstinence is there, y'all! Like I said, complaints of the books being unchristian clearly come from people who have not read the book, or who are determined not to like it.
And that's my rant for the day :) Maybe I'll publish this to Carpe Noctem later...
Thoughts, questions, opinions, arguments welcome, as always! Oh, and don't forget to vote on the serial poll, and don't forget to give me ideas for my ONE YEAR BLOGGING ANNIVERSARY!!
Facts and Sigs
*jaw drops to desk-level* ... *rubs eyes* ...I *DO* have 54 followers now! :O :O Wow, how did this happen?? Thanks Jaynine, Cassie, and Illunse! Y'all are fantastic! You make my day!!
EDIT: *GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASP* 55??????? Thanks, Calico Zak! Wow!!
------------------------
Fact! Or...Fiction?
A tooth left in Coca-Cola over night will disolve.
Leave your guess in a comment or email me for an award! First person to get it right gets and award, and everyone who gets it right but not first will get a participation award. No Googling allowed ;)
-------------------------
Well, today was fine. Nothing to report, really. I have dance tonight, though! First class of the year! Same teacher, probably a lot of the same girls. It'll be fun. I do have kind of a lot on my plate, though. Soccer practices, soccer games, play practices, dance classes, school work getting significantly challenging...*moangroansigh*
Anyway, I started ANOTHER story inspired by soccer the other day, but I do not even plan to continue it, so I probably won't talk about it much. It's just a random scribbling (er, typing...).
I was very bored, and didn't have anything real to say today, so I made more signatures for no reason XD I made them for the main characters of "The W Chronicles".
The main character in "Woods" is Tyler Gifford (she's a girl, by the way), a bad-tempered freshman who has forgotten the joy of being a child.
The main character in "Waters" is Linder Asp, a shy half-elf lady-in-waiting for the Elven queen who wants to prove her human mother's innocence in a murder case.
The main character in "Walls" is Landon, an smart, sixteen-year-old orphan boy who works for the Leader. (This story is set in the future. It will portray how I think America will be in a hundred years or so.)
Also, there's Kaelie Kayla Morgan, Landon's clever and quirky fourteen-year-old sister.
The main character in "Ways" is Princess Kristalia Calvinson (Krista), a troubled thirteen-year-old princess whose strong family ties and sense of duty give her strength and courage.
During the story, Krista has to give up her identity as a princess and go "undercover". Then she can really be her own person. Because she's so different during this time, I made a seperate signature for just plain Krista.
The main character in "Wars" is Vega the Assasin Girl, proud and capable. (Yes, I decided against the majority. Vega is such a cool name [I loved Kieran, too, though] and it goes with the meaning of her brothers' names as well.) Despite the fact that I've talked about Vega the most and I have some of her story written, I don't know much about her yet. I'm still figuring it out. Here's her signature, though:
Her almost-thirteen-year-old brother, Levant, is also a big character, to give the series another boy :) He's wild, easy-going and extremely likable. He's also a pick-pocket.
So, yeah. That's what I did for like forty-five minutes XD Thanks for reading, you guys! WOOT! Over 'n' out,
P.S. *another jaw drop* TWENTY PEOPLE VOTED IN THE POLL! YAAAAAAAAAY FOR MAJOR RECORD-BREAKING!! Apparently, "Beauty and the Beast" is the most popular Disney movie among Carpe Diem readers. Runner ups were:
Mulan: 11
Aladin: 9
Cinderella: 7
Toy Story: 6
Sleeping Beauty: 4
Hercules: 3
Snow White/Can't decide: 2
Over all, I totally am in agreement with the outcome. My top three favorites came out as the over all top three, and my least favorite, Snow White, came in last place. I'm just surprised that Sleeping Beauty beat Hercules... ;)
Imagination and Irritation
Memory Day! Peek into my past... ( ;) )
When I was about ten years old and Lizzy was eight, my parents left us home for an hour or so to go to band practice for our church. Things were fine at home for a little while, but then Lizzy and I heard a noise coming from my dad’s office. It sounded like my dad talking on the phone, so we weren’t bothered by that, until we remembered that our dad wasn’t home. Then we sort of freaked out a little. Lizzy demanded that I go and check in my dad’s office to see if someone was there. After a lot of arguing and freaking out together, I did. I didn’t see anyone, but both of us were convinced we had heard someone.
The rest of the night we kept hearing people! Upstairs, in the bathroom, in the kitchen, in our parents’ bedroom. We finally decided that the intruders had to be invisible. It was the only explanation. I had actually been doing some research on invisibility cloaks for a story I was writing, so unfortunately I knew that being invisible was actually possible. Lizzy and I ended up calling our parents, who were more than little ticked off at me for getting us both all scared.
For a long time after that, I really believed that there were people in my house wearing invisibility cloaks. That’s definitely one of the downsides to having a powerful imagination.
So, yes; I've pretty much always been this paranoid and, um, creative :)
FIRST: Thanks for following Lisabailey! You rock!! ;)
FIRST AND A HALF (because "second" sounds too late): Thanks to Bethany for making the wonderful new header for the blog! Yayayayayayayay! I love it! Do you? She says she likes working with photoshop, so if you have the need for a banner as well...
Classical went well today. Our class is really back to its regular self, which makes me all warm and fuzzy inside XP It does, okay?! I love how we all laugh with and at each other, and so much more. Most of us have been together since eight grade, and some of us from even elementary school. We're a pretty tight bunch ;D
There was a Latin quiz this week. Some of you may know that Latin was not exactly my focal point this week. Let's just say, I studied lightly at the most. So, when the teacher announced that the Latin quiz was today, it was one of those You're-Joking-Right?-Please-Be-Joking-Oh-No,-You're-Not moments for me. Despite my horrors, I actually did pefectly fine. The quiz was EASY.
The logic quiz...hmm...In my defense, whoever wrote the book is a flat-out HORRIBLE teacher with NO LOGIC EXPERIENCE or GOOD WRITING EXPERIENCE WHATSOEVER. All he talks about is crap like Simple Aprehension and Verbal Expressions and Comprehension vs. Extension and all this junk that has to be put into confusing over-lapping categories! I HATE IT! I *love* logic, so when someone like Mr. What'sHisName comes along and writes a terrible logic book (which we frequently have to change in class because it's INCORRECT), it makes me MAD. Can you TELL?
Lol. Sort of. No, actually, you know what? Not lol.
Other than that, today has been fine. The teacher really loved my "Paradise Lost" paper, which is a major YAY because I loved the book. I hate it when I write a bad paper for a good book.
Tonight I have soccer practice :-/ Normally I don't dislike soccer at all. Normally, I actually love it by this time. The only problem is our coach isn't a great coach. He's not BAD, and he's really nice, he's just not the best coach in the world. So, I feel like we never really learn much. AND, he doesn't make us run, which might be a good thing, except that it means that I'll just STAY out shape instead of improve. Humph.
Desirae Mayes story: I think I wrote some last night, not much, but some. It's going okay. Still not great, and I doubt it will go anywhere. Still, it's good to be writing SOMETHING again, you know?
No play practice tonight :( None, actually, until Friday! *sob*
Hmm...I think that's all for now, folks. The What Disney Movie is Your Favorite? poll is about to expire, so if you'd like to cast your vote, go for it! So far 18 people have voted, which is an all-time high for me :) Yay and thanks, y'all!
Carpe diem!
Fact or Fiction and the Timeline from Satan
Fact or Fiction:
The Kentucky Fried Chicken chain changed their name to KFC to eliminate the word "fried" from its title.
As usual, comment or email me your answer, and NO GOOGLING :)
-------------------------
Well, today was just lovely.
NOT.
School was going moderately fine until about 2:45 when I started to work on my hateful timeline for Art History. To keep it short, I'll just explain it as the most horrendously tedious, mind-numbingly frustrating, stress-inducing school activity ever conceived by man (or in this case, woman :P).
AND it has to be done on the computer, which triples the liklihood of getting a monsterous headache (I did).
I had three pages worth of dates to enter into this timeline. I have to copy and paste the timeline onto a word document, change all the dates on the line to suit what I need it to, copy and past the little labels and stick them to the right date.
To give you an idea of how long it takes to do this, I'll tell you that it took me 53 minutes to enter in half a page's worth of dates.
I saved the document and decided I'd finish later.
That wasn't good enough for my mother, however, she said I had to finish the other two and a half pages NOW, and she wanted to see what I had done so far (I don't think she believed me that I had worked on it at all :( ).
Grumbling to myself, I pulled up the hateful timeline.
Er, tried to.
The thing is, it wasn't there.
None of it. At all. Nothing. Nowhere.
My timeline had somehow gotten deleted, or at any rate, not saved even though I specifically clicked SAVE a million times!
SO, I had to start ALL OVER and do the WHOLE THING which took me a grand total of THREE HOURS of insanely tedious, mind-numblingly frustrating, stressful WORK.
I almost cried. But I didn't.
So, that was my day.
How was yours? >:E
No play practice tonight :'( I'm sad about that. I really, really, REALLY like it. I thought at first it was going to just stress me out, but it actually is KEEPING me from being stressed. It's a great way to relax and have fun after a horrible day. So, I really wish I had it tonight :(
As for writing...*sigh* I really need to get with it, I know. I don't know what's wrong with me, but then again I never do.
So, blah. Vote on the poll. Answer the Fact or Fiction question. Participate in Followers Say. Ask me a question for Question Day. Get someone to become my 50th follower.
*sigh*
I'm sorry. Today has just turned out to be a heck of a let down. Thanks for cheering me up, though, Cavender :)
P.S. Check out my new bookshelf! It's on the sidebar thing right after the blog archive.
