Bad Memories vs. Good Ones
I actually thought of this question while riding home from dance tonight. We have this tape-and-wire (technical, I know) thing that lets you play your iPod through the car speakers. Well, the wire is apparently getting old. Half the time the music doesn't come out of the speakers on the right side of the car, and when it does, it breaks up. Static and funny noises are an added bonus. To get your music to play at all you have to contort the wire into uncomfortable positions and HOLD IT THERE.
And then it sometimes still won't play -_-
Sorry. Tangent. But that really does have something to do with the fact that BAD is easier to remember than GOOD.
How? Well, now I can hardly remember what it was like to be able to just LISTEN to my iPod in the car. No wire-jiggling. No iPod-throwing. No wondering if that's really part of the song. All I know is that now, it SUCKS.
We do that a lot, you know, with lots of different things.
When you're starving in the desert, it's hard to remember feeling full and refreshed. But once you're out of the desert, you sure as heck remember how hellish it was to be there.
When you have a broken heart, you swear that it wasn't worth all the good times you had. And then later when you're feeling better, you still swear that getting close to people is a bad idea.
When you're out of shape, you can't remember how good it felt to be able to run a mile flat out. But then when you finally get back into shape, you remember clearly how horrid it felt to sit on the couch all day.
Sometimes the healthy remembrance of the bad is a good thing. It keeps us from loosing sight of where we've come from, and why we stopped/starting doing things differently. But then sometimes it just makes us pessimistic.
The point of this post isn't to say that remembering bad more clearly is better or worse, it's just to point it out. And to ask why.
Why do you think people remember bad things better than good things? Or do you ever agree that we do?

My Fail At Being Photogenic (the night of my haircut)
So, basically: Lizzy's camera + new hair + late at night = crazy pictures!
I'm also really annoyed by those popular girls who sit around all day taking "bad" pictures of themselves when they couldn't look bad if they'd been run through a meat-grinder. I never felt like I had whatever it is that makes them look good even when they're not trying. *sigh* Ah well. New hair did help some. I guess. *raises eyebrow*
Hopefully you won't stare at these and dump me in the category of Vain-Popular-Princess, because I'm not. I don't think...I hope I'm not...
*shakes head*
It's late (well, after midnight at any rate), I'm tired, I can't think straight.
SO, without further ado, I present you, the epic fail called "My Fail At Being Photogenic" :)
Cheesy smile...

Okay, so today has been weirdly awesome.
First of all, let me start out by telling you how a typical school day goes for me.
9:30am: Get woken up by mom.
9:45am: Actually get up.
9:40am: Go upstairs and eat breakfast (and read Dear Annie in the paper, catch my favorite comics in the funnies section, read a chapter or two of whatever book I'm reading..."
10:10am: Come down stairs and "start school"
10:11am: Check all my many emails, check my blogs, check Facebook, stalk some people on Facebook (maaaaaybe...)
10:30am: Repeat.
10:40am: Actually start school. Fiddle around with some research for Western Culture, glance at biology, check off twice as much stuff on my list as I actually did.
11:05am: Repeat what I did at 10:11.
11:30am: Do a math lesson.
11:55am: Well, I've been hard at work all morning, so I guess I can just read or goof around until lunch.
12:30pm: Lunch.
1:05pm: Write a paper...or at least a couple of paragraphs...okay, four sentences maybe...
1:10pm: Check Facebook.
1:30pm: Finish paper...or at least a couple of paragraphs...
2:00pm: Check Facebook, emails, blogs...
2:20pm: Do some logic.
2:40pm: Glance over some reading for Art History...
2:50pm: Get side tracked by this old story I found in my room...
3:10pm: Oh, wow! A whole day gone! Guess I'll call it a day.
-.-
Long schedule short: My work ethic sucks. Absolutely SUCKS. I know that, and the people that I admire the most do not have sucky work ethics. I would like the people I admire to think well of me, too.
So.
Today, I decided to exercise the self-dicipline I KNOW I have (...don't I?) and work HARD. Actually HARD.
I was at school by 9:30. I attacked biology with ferver. I got a lot more done than usual, and OMG I UNDERSTOOD IT??????? I did!
Then, I got to work on the bibliography that I'm supposed to have been keeping for six weeks but haven't. It is no easy task tracing down every website you used to find research on the Renaissance, Albrecht Durer, Jan van Eyck, Michelangelo, El Greco, Leonardo da Vinci, the "Pieta", "The Resurrection", and "Arnolfini's Wedding".
But I did it.
Then, I got to work on the vocabulary list I'm supposed to have been keeping for six weeks but haven't. That was a bit easier.
THEN, I FINALLY started working on my Art Grant Project. (Basically, we have to put together a presentation to apply for a "grant" for an art project. We give a presentation to the class, and then the class votes on whether or not we get the grant.)
Step One: Decide on a project.
Yeah. My work strategy basically sucks.
So, anyway, I got up to date on the Grant Project.
Next, a math lesson.
Next, attack a chapter in logic.
By this time it's 3:30pm, and I've only checked Facebook once. I've also had the most enjoyable (NO sarcasm!) and productive day I've had in a long time.
Then, I attack the Art History paper on Leonardo da Vinci some more.
By this time it's 4:15pm. Busy day, crazy, day, but a really fun day! :O :O :O Weird, huh?
So, my dad comes in and tells me that if we want to grab a bite to eat somewhere before the special play practice at 6pm, we should go. (It takes us 45 minutes to get to the play practice town). The special practice was for me and the other people who are working with the Hun puppets.
So, we go eat at Pizza Hut, just me and my dad, which was awesome. I get along with him so well. We always have such a fun, easy time. We're a lot alike.
Play practice went well. Working with a big, heavy-ish puppet is a challenge, and my arm is a tad sore (lol), but I think I'm getting it, and I had a lot of fun. I'm really getting to know people better, and I'm getting to be more of myself around them.
We came home, and watched two episodes of this spy-mystery-action-freaky-action-spy-mystery TV series we got on DVD called Alias. It's so awesome, but this last episode had some stuff set in a creepy, bad-conditions mental institute...do I even have to say that I am a little creeped out?
So, after an awesome day in all ways possible...
I still have to read a ton of "Gulliver's Travels", do some Latin, and read some Art History stuff.
*SIGH*
SLACKING DOESN'T PAY, PEOPLE! And actually doing the work can be more enjoyable than doing nothing all day...
I am a bit worried about getting those three last things, done, though...Tomorrow's schedule:
8:00am: GET UP.
8:30am: Eat something (c'mon, just oneeeee bite...)
9:00am: Get self looking...decent.
9:30am: Leave for play practice.
10:00am: Play practice.
1:00pm: Lunch break.
2:30pm: Resume play practice.
5:00pm: Get out of play practice.
5:30pm: Babysitting
11:00pm (hopefully): Come home, sleep.
...
And WHERE am I supposed to fit in reading "Gulliver's Travels", doing some Latin exercises, and reading loooooong chapters in the Art History books?
Ohh, right, I should have been doing that instead of posting...
XD Ah, well. Some things never change.
Carpe diem, everyone! And sorry for this epic-long post...

A Faithful Follower and My Call Backs
----------------------------------
Second: AWARD DAY!! I will now give an award to a follower. Eventually, everyone should have one.
The first award ever will go to...KREVAN! He hasn't been commenting as much anymore because he's been at his grandparents' house, but in general, he's been one of the most faithful followers and commenters on the blog. Thanks, Krevan, and here's your award for whenever you get back:
Thanks, Krevan!
--------------------------------
Okay, so call backs were today. They went okay. Some good things happened, some okay things.
Good thing: More guys came, so now there are actually around EIGHT instead of THREE. Wow ;)
Good thing: I was asked to read the part of an ancestor, and I loved it. I want to be an ancestor now.
Bad thing: I also had to read the part of a Hun, who has one line (I heard him, too, boss. -.-), and is actually going to be a giant puppet for the play. I would just have to do the voice offstage--a guy voice, of course.
Bad/Good thing: A grand total of 29 people auditioned, and there are a grand total of 30 parts in the play. Yeah; everyone will get to be something. Which means that it's not special at all that I will definitely be in the play. (And if I'm not, it'll be a huge slap in the face and not just a "Sorry, there weren't enough parts", LOL!)
Just a thing: I had to read the part of Mulan's grandmother.
So, over all, I really don't know what to think. I guess I feel a little a little disappointed, but I can't really even put my finger on why...*shrug* I'm still glad I'm doing this, and I'm having fun, don't get me wrong. I guess I'm just starting to wonder if practicing six days a week will be worth it if I'm just an offstage Hun.
I know, I know. No small parts, only small actors. Or actresses :)
Other news: ...
Nothing, really. Lots of chores to do today (BLECK!!), I'm going to try to sit down and write, but we'll see.
Oh, we're going to this guy's surprise party. He's turning 90. Yes, NINTY. I don't HAVE to go, but I think I will. I mean, he's a really sweet old guy apparently, and how many surprise parties for 90-year-olds do you get to go to?
I am inviting all of you to come to mine. When I am ninty, I want to see all of you at my party ;)
I think that's about it...

**AUDITION UPDATE**
I GOT A CALL BACK!! But before you get all excited, so did everyone else -.- But, I still did. It's tomorrow at 2 o'clock. So...YAY!
:D :D :D :) :) :)
I'm so glad the audition over with (well, most of it), but I really had a fun time doing it! I also met lots of nice people. Now I hope I get a good role, not just the chorus like I had hoped before.
I know you guys' thoughts prayers helped so much; thank you!

First School Days and Chicken Glaze
So, there's this puzzle that's all put together--finally. Every piece is in perfect place, each one fits into the next just as it shoud, there aren't any wrinkles or gaps, and everything is just right. Except suddenly there's a giant piece missing...
Hi! Well, lots of news!
Soccer went...well, pretty fine! The coach is very nice, and he doesn't make us run at all, which is good for me in the short run, but not the long run. He's also not a particularly good coach, but I've had WAAAAY worse, so it's all good.
I bought some ADORABLE new tennis shoes yesterday, and I'm planning to run every day. Since I won't be running at soccer practice, I guess I'll have to get into shape somehow else.
SCHOOL UPDATE: Well, it was okay. Definitely overwheming and there's a lot to do each week. I'm not really excited about the main subjects, and logic isn't the kind I like at all. My teacher does a great job, she's just not my favorite teacher for some reason. I really liked having my dad last year; having a guy teacher was awesome, and the boys acted differently (better), too.
So, pretty much, it was a disappointment :'( Still, I thought Challenge I was going to totally suck and it was AMAZING, so, you never know!
We called Ellie at lunch and put her on speaker-phone, so she got to "eat lunch with us" even though she wasn't there. That was awesome.
Several times, I glanced around at Taylor to ask him something with my eyes, but he wasn't there. No further comment on this issue.
In a minute, I'm going to go outside and kick the soccer ball around with my dad before taking a quick shower.
Okay, I gotta tell this story from dinner.
So, we were having a really fun dinner, laughing and joking, and then Daddy started reading the Bible (we're in Revelation, which is my favorite book, and Lizzy *hates* it). Well, all the sudden, I look down at my arm and it's all nasty and greasy. I'm like,
"What the heck? What *is* this??" I'm kind of laughing and freaking out at the same time.
Then my mom is like, "It's in your hair!" And there's all this grease in my hair. Then we all look at the little cup of nasty chicken-juice sitting by my plate, and we're like, *groan*. So, I use like a million napkins, and we're all sort of chuckling. Then, I'm just like,
"Okay, I am just taking a shower after a while."
Mom: "Why don't you just go over to the sink and rinse that piece of hair really quick?"
So, I go over and start sink-washing. And my dad just cracks up. I'm like,
"What is so funny??"
He's just howling and he's like, "It really is funny!"
Me: "It is NOT--okay...yeah, it really is."
More really hard laughing.
Okay, maybe you had to be there.
At any rate, I think my life could totally be turned into a sitcom.
That's all for now! TTYL!

Jace Wayland <3
He's a character in "The Mortal Instruments" trilogy. I don't know if you remember, but I read that a couple of weeks (a month?) ago. Well, Ellie read them, too, of course, and we're equally in love with Jace. He's so amazing. Hot, arrogant, a Shadowhunter (one of the best, I might add). He's just so awesome. I don't even know why.
Anyway, we hope it'll become a movie, but at the same time we don't. I mean, what if it ends up like "Twilight"? They don't do the movie justice, and then everybody and their brother is in love with it. I don't want "The Mortal Instruments" to become another pop-culture phenomenon that everyone ends up hating after three weeks. Jace is too awesome to be spoiled like that.
Isn't it wonderfully ironic that today is Picture Day? Because now I have an even better excuse for posting pictures of Jace! :)
I like this one, but it's not my favorite.
Same. Good, but not the best.
I do love this one. Possibly a favorite.
Probably my favorite. It captures it all.
The actor is pretty cute, too, but, as usual, the character is the one I'm "in love" with. *sigh/moan* Figures :)
Last night was Gabrielle's 14th birthday party! That was really fun! Seriously. It was great. It was almost like "old times" in a couple of ways, and the "new times" weren't so bad either. I was really happy with the evening, and I think Gabby was, too! I'm always self-conscious about the presents I get people, but I think she was pleased. Yay! :)
That's all for now, folks! Talk to ya later! Look up "The Mortal Insturments"! Carpe diem!

Pascal's Wager
Well, the recital went amazingly. We all did very well, with no extreme mistakes. I'm just sad dance is over until like September!! Noooo! That's so sad :( I love dance. It's so much fun and it makes me feel great.
It's also really sad to think about the fact that I'll pretty much never see the seniors again. Ever. Possibly they'll come around for the recitals once a year, but they won't care about me. I care about them because they're awesome and moderately nice to me and I look up to them. I'm just a freshman who doesn't say much. (Yeah, I actually keep my mouth shut at dance :D) It's always sad to see friendships fade. But, hey, maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. The seniors haven't forgotten me completely YET! Lol ;)
The one good thing about dance being over is that I'll get to play with the little kids every Wednesday night now!! (Band practice for the church band, their kids come along, etc. We've been through this.)
I didn't write any Creepy--whoops, I mean "Mirror"--this weekend, but that's okay because it doesn't feel like I'm avoiding it like it sometimes does.
I watched the movie Zathura tonight. Stupid movie. No offense to any die-hard fans reading this ;)
Um...OHHH, right! Today is Bible Day! Okay, well...Let's go with Pascal's Wager. I know some of y'all are familiar with that (maybe ALL of you...), but let me just go over it really quick:
Blaise Pascal. Famous science guy. He was French (you can kinda tell from the name). And invented the first calculator (ish) thing. And I knew all that without Googling it :D That's what Challenge B does to you. *shudders...then grins*
Oh, yeah, and something about Pascal Triangle or something...I don't really pay attention to the math part as much. Haha, just kidding.
Anyway, Pascal basically said that we should put our bets on God.
Everyone wants to have a good life, right? I mean, seriously! Pascal's thinking was that if you believed in God and served him, you would have a wonderful life. Not *necissarily* because God exists, but because you believed you were doing right, and that makes us feel good inside. Plus, living by God's ideals is a lot more peaceful than living by what the world says.
So then Pascal said this (not actually quoting, here): when we die, either there is a God and we served him and we got to Heaven, or there isn't a God and we cease to exist.
If you chose God and he's real, then you have a happy life on Earth, and then die and get something even better. If you chose God and he's fake, then you have a happy life on Earth and lose nothing.
If you reject God and real, you live a sadder Earth life, then...let's just say, ya don't go to Heaven ;) If you reject God and he's fake, then you've lived a sadder life and gained nothing.
So pretty much, you get the better deal if you believe in God, whether or not he's real.
Personally, I believe there is a God. It doesn't seem very logical that all the world evolved from a premordial soup or whatever. Believing in God makes more sense to me. God makes sense to me, and I'm discovering that more and more as I look into things.
I DO see little inconsistencies in the Bible, though, I'm determined to figure out why that is. I don't want to just turn a blind eye to those things that appear to contradict each other--pretending a problem doesn't exist doesn't make it go away. I want to learn the truth. I want to look at the facts, and see where they lead me. I'm going to TRY not to be biased, and see what happens.
But I'm betting on God.

Victory!
I am so tired I can't say anything more, but just know that it was WAY better than the rehearsal, everything went perfectly. I love dancing. It makes me feel so amazing, and nothing is more fun. Aaaaaaaaaaaand...
I got a picture with the girl who looks just like my character! Does it GET any better?? :) Talk to y'all tomorrow!

Good News, Bad Luck
-------------------
Okay, so it's Challenge Day. AGAIN. Um...Gosh!! I think I'm gonna change this to some other kind of day. I'm just not good at this. And I don't think y'all do the challenges anyway, lol! (That's not a bad thing. I'm just saying.) What should I change this day to? Any ideas? Let me know!
-------------------
Not much at all has happened today. I wrote a paragraph of Creepy--I mean "Mirror"--and I got a stone bruise -_- I was running up the hill in my backyard and my foot came down on some evil little rock or something. Ouch!! It hurts, and what's worse is I have to dance tomorrow! What if it's still all bruised? Bruises don't heal THAT fast! *moan* This is just not my week apparently. My usually okay luck has turned against me. Greaaaat. (Note extreme sarcasm.)
However, "Mirror" is going tolerably well, so that's good. I'd rather have rotten luck and be able to write. I guess. *sigh* I don't know. I love dance. And I love my cell phone!! And my rings were in the bag, too. I'm addicted to my rings. I have like fifteen rings. Only two were in the bag, but they were my favorite. Completely irreplacible because they hold so many memories and stuff. Hopefully the bag really is on the counter. Although with my sudden change in luck, I would be surprised if it wasn't.
Sorry. I'm going all gloomy on you. I'll just stop now before I say something even more depressing.
Maybe I'll write some "Mirror". Paige is depressed right now, too, so this is probably a good time to write. I'll be able to make her unhappiness more authentic.
*eyes widen* More good news! I have twenty-one followers! Even after that one person stopped! Wow. It's honestly hard to believe that more than like four people care about what I say. Seriously. I have a hard enough time getting my debate partners to listen to me! Haha, just kidding (mostly). But still. Thanks for following and reading, guys! It means a lot to me!
Carpe diem!!

Endings
You know the feeling where you finally have a ending thought up for your character? You smile and think, "Yes! That's perfect!" and inwardly reassure your character that even though they're about to be eaten by six different mosters and have the love of their life threatened with death, the ending to their story is great.
I love to imagine my characters' endings. I make a lot of bad things happen to them, and it kills me, but I know it comes out just right. I mean, who doesn't love that warm, satisfied feeling when you read the last sentence in a book and just smile; everything happened exactly right. Not what you expected, and tons of terror between beginning and end, but everything turned out right.
Sometimes I feel like apologizing to my characters. I want to tell them to hang in there because I have things all worked out. For the best possible ending ever. And the bad guys totally GET IT in the end.
See, that's kind of how God is with us. He has my story (and yours) all thought out, with the ending just right! Bad things happen, but in the end, everything works out in the way it needs to, and the "bad guys" GET IT! Isn't that cool??
I love to think about it like that. I tend to be a huge worrier, so it's really calming to think that God has it all figured out anyway. My story is written, he's just kind of reading it now. He knows what's coming, and he laughs with me, cries with me, and knows that in the end, he's got the very best ending all picked out for me.
It's almost exciting. I mean, don't you love those books that have your stomach churning with anticipation? The main character is caught in a terrible situation, and you just can't imagine how the writer is going to get him out.
My life is a page-turner, and so is yours. Only God knows whats really goin' on, and he can't wait for us to find out, too! I almost picture a little boy jumping up and down saying, "See?? This is my favorite part!! I told you it turned out okay!" Isn't that cool?
So next time you're having a terrible day, or something really bad happens, just remember, God has your story all written, and it ends just right.

15. We found everything we wanted at Wal-Mart. (GOOD)
16. The cashier lady was sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooower than Christmas. (BAD)

26. The guy who checked out my stuff was verrrrrrrrrrrry nice.
