Hey, y'all! Just a couple of announcements before I get to the tag...
Thanks for following, adoptedbyblood!
The poll about Liking vs. Disliking Twilight is over! Hmm...look at that! 70% of those who dislike Twilight have not read the books! Of those who HAVE read the books, only about 40% dislike them. Imagine that.
Sorry. That might have been just a LITTLE big smug-sounding. Please excuse me; I couldn't help myself. I'm in such a...mischievous mood today >:D
Also, please click on the link at the very top of the sidebar. The thing that says "What do you think of me?" or something like that. I can't really remember what it says. I'm very interested, and I'm not easily offended either. Be as rude as you like as long as you're honest :)
I'd like to direct you all over to Thoughts of a Shieldmaiden. For $35, Earwen, the wonderful authoress of that Robin Hood thing I talked about, is offering to send out copies of her book! The book is called "The Elmeria Chronicles: Shadows". It's the first in a...trilogy, is it? Anyway, there are sequels :) I haven't read any of the book that I can think of, but everything by Earwen that I HAVE read has been amazing. If you want more information, click HERE. She answers FAQs about ordering HERE as well.

oh boy, i'll do it! after NaNo...ehheh. NaNo ate my life.
I do not need to read a book about VAMPIRES to dislike it, see my comments on the subject here:
http://puelladei.blogspot.com/2009/11/haircuts-and-anti-fanpires.html
Einar- AMEN.
Vampires are really lame.
The only good one is the one from sesame street.
Loved your tag. ;)
And I know, the secrets thing always gets me... I'm like #1, not telling my biggest secret to anyone. #2. I'm CERTAINLY not telling it over the internet.
lol.
Bethany: Yay! :D Haha, good luck with NaNo!
Einar: Sorry I didn't answer that before, I meant to, but didn't get around to it. I will now, though. Don't wanna end up like Alex Floyd XD
I do actually agree with you on several points, but there are so many reasons why I DO like the book that I chose to look past them. Whether that is good or bad...*shrug* I think it's good; you may not.
Bella's being obsessed with Edward: disgusting and unhealthy, AMEN. Anyone who spirals into five month catatonia over a breakup is just too needy.
I don't understand what's wrong with being original and fresh with vampires. Stephenie Meyer completely redefined vampirism, yeah, but that's GOOD! It's new and exciting! That's what writers do! Put a new band on an old hat.
Yes, it is purely entertainment, but there's nothing wrong with that. Sure, there are things out there that are entertaining AND productive, but that doesn't make the entertainment-only bad.
Edward is a Christian who believes in abstinence. Whether that is just to "placate" us or not, I don't know.
It's definitely not good to forget. But, um...VAMPIRES AREN'T REAL. There's not some big moral in there they we need not lose by redefining vampires. Vampires don't exist, and there's not lesson that we need to preserve. Quite different from Hitler and communism/socialism.
I'm not saying that the Twilight Saga is the best series out there. I'm not saying I think everyone should read them. I'm not even recommending them! I'm just simply saying that there is nothing unchristian about them, and for Christians to avoid them like the plague seems judgmental and silly.
The longer the better, always :)
Gracie: See above paragaphs, lol! :)
Yeah, the secret things are weird. Like, why would anyone tell??
Trust me I don't avoid them. ;-)
I just don't like the idea of the series.
My MOTHER however- is obsessed. She owns all 4 books. The movie, went and saw New Moon and waited in a three hour line with all the little teenagers.
She's obsessed no joke. So there's no way of me avoiding them! lol.
I just don't like the idea.
very... interesting!
Please check out my blog http://limerd.blogspot.com/
Thanks!

No problem, you can email me privately! =)
Gracie: Oh, yeah, true, haha!
Limer: ...I follow your blog! Lol!
Earwen: Okay, thanks!
LOL
Love your favourite quote! seriously aplies to my mischevious mood, anyway
the 12th point made me think of those times than barely just minutes ago I was in that spot when just something bad happened.
so... vampire fan?
Kendra, you seriously think that Edward is a Christian? That's odd. One thing, he shows no fruit of being one (marries Bella, who I understand is not a Christian), and actually hangs out around Bella in the first place. I have been told that Bella wanted to go into a relationship that's only for married couples...before Edward and her actually got married. If Edward was a Christian, that would have been a sign for him to get away from her.
Another reason why that's funny--J.T. Norlander just told me that Edward WASN'T a Christian. Why is Edward's faith contradictory? If it was true, it would be much more visible.
Sorry if this is a sloppy comment--my little bro is wailing in my ear! :)
Words have power, even if they are about something fictional, they can obviously have a huge influence on someone's life, as is particularly evident with the Twilight Saga.
The way I see it, intentionally or not, Stephanie Meyer has done something very dangerous. She has taken a creature that used to symbolize evil in its purest form, and combined it with just enough good to make it seem good through and through. A Christian Vampire? A demonic creature that shines like an angel? The most powerful lies are the ones that are more truth than deceit. Such things seem small and insignificant at first, but in the end, you would be amazed at what such a tiny thing could do.
One more example and I am done, I consider you a friend by now, so I don't want to see you hurt, but neither do I want to be a jerk, and hurt you myself by sticking on this one disagreement.
Say you have a snowy hill, this hill is not very steep at first, and your father tells you to go have fun sledding on it, but not to go past a certain point, which leads to a large bog. You sled for hours, and have a fine time, but then you begin to try to go faster, and faster. You come closer and closer to the line, but you reason that as long as you do not go RIGHT up to it, you are safe. Suddenly however, you find that the hill steepens slightly before the line. You try to stop, but have picked up too much speed in that direction when you were in the 'safe zone' You cross the line, not because you tried to cross it, you may have attempted to stop even; but rather, because you went too fast while you were still safe.
This example is usefull for a lot of things, many even more so than this issue, but it works fairly well. It may be Edward and Jace Wayland now, but what if it is someone worse later? If you agreed with some of what I said, then DON’T ignore it, that is the beginning of an “I know, but...” mentality, a very dangerous thing for a Christian to have.
I hope I wasn’t offensive, and if I was I apologize. I will drop it now
Oh, and Green FTW!
Stupid comment thing, is ruined my smiley at the end.
;)
There.
It occurs to me that your poll only had the options of "have read the series" or "have not read the series."
I would think that if someone didn't like the books, they would not finish all four of them. Heck, they probably wouldn't even make it very far into the first book at all. So it may be an unfair question.
Oh, and I mostly agree with Einar.
But Edward isn't a Vampire.
He's a fairy with emotional problems.
Making vampires sparkle is, quite literally, like saying "demons aren't all THAT bad."
Edward's entire character reeks of pandering to the desires of the feminine mind. (and I say this with the agreement of my female friends) Edward is a dangerous predator who wants to dominate Bella, yet also has the "moral fortitude" to resist going all the way. (oooo... double entendre!) He's also got plenty of emotional issues, which stirs the "motherly/caretaker" side of Bella.
The entire point of the Twilight saga is the idea that it's possible to walk the edge of a knife: to lean towards the darkness, yet ultimately retain innocence. That balance between desire and restraint; between passion and caution; between light and dark; between night and day: the "twilight."
And it's a lie.
Sorry, but I gotta thank KnightWing for pointing out the name of the series. Dum-Dum that I am, I completely missed the significance of "Twilight"
I didn't get it either until I got into a conversation about the significance of Kristen Stewart's underwear in that scene in the movie.
(But that's another story)
